My favorite quote was "wisdom begins with wonder." I liked this quote because so often we group the words smart and wise together. Teachers can teach using a student centered model and still produce smart students. However, I believe using a student centered, inquiry based model, we will achieve not only smart, but also WISE students.

It is just like every good lesson should have an attention grabber for student motivation.

When people seek to answer questions and satisfy their wonders they develop wisdom.

"The cure for boredom is curiosity. There is no cure for curiosity." Dorothy Parker
I actually liked the second part of this quote the best. We have all come across something we are curious about, and when that curiosity is satisfied, our minds will move on to a new curiosity. Thus, "no cure." For example, when I travel to some new geographical location, my curiosity about that place is placated and I begin to think about the next place I want to go!

When kids start to wonder they want to learn by Rick Wormeli
I got a new student a few weeks ago. Being new has been hard for him and he was acting out. I started a simple KWL chart to do a simple inquiry lesson on Pets, He offered many suggestions of pets he wanted to learn about. We have learned about some of his specific suggestions. Which were snakes, and if alligators would make good pets are not, I belive there were a few more. Ever sense I did this small thing he has been tuned in. He even checked out a library book about snakes. He loves that book. His behave is not perfect but it has improved-- I will take improvment.

The quote I like the best is "The Cure for Boredom is Curiosity. There is no Cure for Curiosity" by Dorthy Parker.
I like this quote because it reminds me that I need to help my students find their natural curiosity. Like we saw in the video with the baby exploring his world, babies are born curious about their environment and somewhere along the way many of them lose that curiosity. Part of that loss I think is the world of immediate gratification we live in where all a student has to do to avoid boredom is look at a screen. There seems to no longer be an opportunity for them to just sit and think. That is where curiosity and wonder will be, not on a screen.

When I think back to my growing-up years, I don't remember being bored very often. As I consider the reasons why, I feel it is because I was naturally a curious person. I would often satisfy my curiosity with reading, asking questions or actually trying things out. To this day, I still feel I am a curious person and am rarely bored. I should hang this saying in my classroom and home to find out who is curious enough to comment or ask about it.
