Geographic range: Pacific walrus: Bering, Chukchi, and Laptev sea. Atlantic walrus: coastal regions of northeastern Canada and Greenland

Physical characteristics: small eyes, dark skin, long tusks, square-shaped front flippers, triangle shaped back flippers, whiskers. Male pacific walruses weigh about 800 to 1,700kg and are about 2.7 to 3.6m, Atlantic walruses are slightly smaller. Males weigh about 908 and reach lengths of 2.4m

Food: Invertebrates including worms, gastropods, Cephalopods, crustaceans, sea cucumbers, and other soft-bodied animals. There favourite food is molluscs.

Reproduction/ Behaviour: live to be about 20 - 30 years old in the wild. Males become sexually mature as early as seven but do not typical mate until 15. Breeding happens from January to march, peaking in February 

Habitat: The majority of the population of the pacific walrus spends it’s summers north of the Bering strait in the Chukchi Sea of the Arctic Ocean along the northern coast shore of Alaska,and in the waters between those locations 

Conservation/Economic importance to humans: Walruses are extremely important to humans. Humans hunted them and used them for oil, ivory, and their hides.
