Possible draw backs/benefits: I thought that this activity was really fun. The first round we did took a lot more time than I originally thought it would take us. The second time around after collaborating it was more efficient. We were able to fill in 45 more number squares in the same amount of time (2 min).
Over all team-building activities teach the importance of collaboration and helps build on others ideas. It takes the pressure off of only one person and makes it a lot more fun. Most importantly it teaches students communication skills that they will always need and how to work with other people.
-Irma Ortiz

Benefits and drawbacks of team building assignment:
A team building assignment, such as the "numbers game", provides opportunities for team members to learn to work together, with less stress than during higher stakes group assignments.
Personal insights:
While playing the game, I found that when I made mistakes, I knew it wasn't costly too my team. For that reason, I was able to laugh it off, rather than be concerned that my errors would annoy my teammates. This made the exercise more fun, and the team building experience more positive.
Because of this exercise, I found it easier to acknowledge lapses in knowledge regarding other upcoming assignments, and was thus able to ask questions and gain valuable information. The team building exercise served to strengthen my ability to work with members of my collaborative group.
-Rebecca Scotland

Benefits:
-Opportunity to work on communication skills by asking questions and sharing ideas
-Group members work together the entire time and all members are included.
-The task itself is simple in order to hone in on collaboration skills.
-All members are able to see immediate success after discussing strategies to improve.

Other team-building activities:
-Game of Possibilities: Each group member has a random object that they have to demonstrate a use for that object without using words. The rest of the team must guess what the player is demonstrating.
-Scavenger Hunt: Teams must work together to complete goofy tasks. Whoever completes the most tasks the quickest, wins.
-Human Knot: Everyone stands in a circle, puts out their right hand, and grabs someone else's hand. Then they put their left hand out and grab another hand. The group works together to untangle the knot of arms without releasing hands.
-Natalie Prins
