When summer rolls in Nepal, I've been keeping myself hydrated with water and occasionally, other drinks. These days though, the sweet drinks I get from the local markets don’t seem to satisfy my cravings. Well, I can’t exactly pinpoint what I am craving, it could naturally be a result of me being bored of drinking the same old drinks in the summer, or some other underlying factor that I’m not aware of. 

A while ago, specifically 7 months ago to be exact, my sister had told me about a new job opportunity she had gotten, and when I asked her more about this so-called job, she just smiled and said something along the lines of how my next summer—or in other words this current one would not be like the rest for my palette. A bit ominous, but that’s how my sister is 

Looking back, she seemed very excited when talking about this job, and now, I can understand why. As my sister had gotten a high-paying job to be a worker in not just any factory in Nepal, but Bottlers Nepal Limited (BNL), it seemed that my sister had been alluding to there being a new beverage coming for this summer, and she told me with full confidence in it being something I have never tried before, and something that I would like, safe to say, she was more than right (Sunuwar, 2024, Devasia, 2021). 

The drink my sister had been alluding to was Coca-Cola, a beverage that seems to be popular overseas, and not for no reason. I remember when I had purchased it at the recently opened stores selling it, waiting in a long line as it seemed that I wasn’t the only one who was anticipating this beverage's arrival in Nepal. 

After I had purchased my Coca-Cola beverage, one can be exact, I tried it right away, the flavor did not disappoint, and it ended up filling the hole in my heart (well, pallet to be more exact) that had been craving for a new flavor of drinks in the summer, the fizz of the drink was just right, and it’s unique taste and branding was all I had to know that I would be seeing more of this drink in Nepal as time passes. 

And, I was right, as besides occurrences of Coca-Cola commercials being more common as time passes, I hear about our country's economy improving here and there from businessmen and, businesswomen alike (Grzegorzek, 2021).

As more time passed, the more places Coca-cola had reached in my country, once an anticipated drink had unexpectedly become a symbol of our culture, it had become a common sight to see the drink when someone was enjoying their meal, or if someone, myself included is trying to save themselves from the summer heat (Sunuwar, 2024).

And of course, the drink brings people together, such as my sister and I.

To begin, the three positive impacts MNCs have in their host country are demonstrated in the story through the Sister getting a high-paying job, or in other words job opportunities being available, and our main character, or in other words “I” in this story having the chance to be able to try a new beverage after betting bored of the ones they’ve been drinking in the summer, essentially the increase in choices of products, and lastly, Nepals economy improving. 

The main character that is written in this first POV story has a tiny bit of an attitude, which I had done on purpose to demonstrate a young individual, somewhere in the age range of 9-13. Of course, not every young person will have an attitude, but the specific character in this story does :).

I also tried to demonstrate a typical endearing bond between siblings, but it could have come across as inaccurate or "incomplete" for people who do have siblings, I don't so I'm not expecting my writing in that area to be perfect.

And lastly, I tried to frame this story as some sort of "Diary" incase that wasn't clear.
