This can be seen various times when he makes fun of Hassan's lack of education, as well as when Amir pranks him. This is even more apparent when Baba praises Hassan. Amir acts rudely towards Hassan because the latter is getting what the former always wanted; acknowledgement from Baba. However, this only comes to show how Amir is still an immature child that grew up without a mother and was deprived of fatherly love for a really long time.
