Reaction to Online Sessions for Classes

Hello readers! Before I proceed on the titled subject, I would like to introduce myself first. My name is Muhammad Fahmi Bin Mohamad Sharif with matric card number is CE200077. I'm currently in my fourth year of studying for a Degree in Electronic Engineering with Honours in UTHM. Today, I would like to share my reaction & thoughts after learning that classes for UHB12902 English Development & Engagement for this sem will be fully online.

In my honest reaction, I actually felt very happy when it was announced that the class would run completely online and I would not required to go to far places to take the class. Since the beginning of my time at UTHM, I did not rent a house around Parit Raja, Batu Pahat, and preferred to commute from home around 40 km because it was more economical.

Based on my experience having online classes throughout the new norm of the COVID-19 incident, online sessions offer flexibility to manage time effectively. It also makes education accessible to more people without requiring them to travel to places. Safety is also secured when online classes minimize the risk of disease transmission. Additionally, students can improve their digital skills, which is important in today's technology-driven world.

On the other hand, online courses lack social interaction and a comprehensive learning experience. Prolonged screen time also can lead to digital fatigue and harm mental and physical health. Some students feel isolated and disconnected from the campus community. Technical issues, such as poor Internet access and device limitations, create learning inequities. Staying engaged and motivated in online classes can be a challenge for some. Additionally, doing group assignments may suffer as a result.

I think that's all I want to share regarding my thoughts about online classes. Thank you for taking some time to read this padlet. I'll be posting more padlet for some other time.

Group Forming Experience

Hello again. This time, we UHB12902 class students were assigned to form a group to carry out group assignments. Because I'm a shy person, I randomly joined group 3 and reached out to group members through group chat.

At the first meeting on Google Meet, we discussed the assignments given, which were to make a documentary video and stage performance. We chose to make a documentary about rock climbing activities after one of the members shared his experience in that regard and wanted to share the fun. While for the performance, we want to make a drama about the problem of bad parenting. The selection of these two titles is based on the majority vote of the group members where there are other interesting ideas such as tour documentaries and choir performances. After that, we distributed the tasks according to the proposal section and also prepared the proposal slide to be presented to the lecturer.

Throughout the meeting, it was the first time I interacted with them because we had never been in the same class before although some of them knew each other. To be honest, I'm shy to share ideas with friends I've just met, but I overcome it by trying to voice anything until they give a positive response and then elaborate on the ideas. Another challenge may be in carrying out their respective tasks responsibly. Because the task involved other people, I completed it on time and made sure they were satisfied with the outcomes.

That's all the experience I want to share this time. From forming this group, I learned to actively engage in discussions and cooperate in reaching mutual agreement. Hopefully, this sharing is enough to give a glimpse of my experience in forming a group.
