There is a process to commissioning an advert. the first step is the sales team. They negotiate a deal with the client and agrees on a brief for the ad. The next thing is the creative writer writes script, including music and voiceover choices. Then the scripts get passed back to the client for approval and if it gets approved, the creative producer makes the ad and then the ad goes back to client for signing off but if they then decide they don't like it, it will cost them more money to go back to the beginning of the production process. the final step is the advert is scheduled through trafficking department and aired on the chosen station.

a production house has the same facilities as radio stations except on a bigger scale. they are regularly behind scripting and producing big, national or international campaigns which could include magazines and TV ads.
an example is clocktower creative. they provide high quality bespoke audio with professional voices at very competitive rates with no contracts. they are based in Manchester and they have been around for 15 years. they have two recording studios and has worked with the likes of Rolls-Royce and IKEA.
some radio stations have the facilities to make their own adverts and air them on its own station which cuts out the middle man (production house). an example of a radio station that does this is Salford City Radio.

community radio stations make adverts for local companies for a small fee and air it on the station. this provides local businesses some exposure without having to pay thousands like a big brand would be able to do to use a national station. for example, a window cleaning company could Pay around £200 for 3 spots a day for 30 days.

negotiated production budget:
local sales teams and regional agencies are used by smaller companies as they only need a small portion of people as well as a smaller sales outlook. However larger companies like apple and Samsung will use national agencies as they need to reach a wider audience. these sales teams are important as they advise advertising strategies.
music royalty payments:
To be be able to keep legal rights to the music you need to pay music royalty payments. If you don't do this you are committing copyright fraud and are defrauding musicians. This can lead to very difficult legal proceedings and isn't good for the brands image.
voiceover artists fee:
the price of voiceover artists differentiates depending on experience and popularity. however more experienced actors will have a better quality and better acting. the amount of money a company will pay for for a voice over shows how successful a brand is or how important the ad is to there financial gain.
trafficking costs:
scheduling is taken care of by the traffic departments; they make sure there is a good selection of ads in the same break as yours and they track the success of the ad by using the sales figures. trafficking costs are essential to get the most out of your ads and to monitor the success.
