(Alexa) Lexi: She is your typical 'perfect girl'. About high school aged with a perfect face and body. She is loved, and hated by many. She is well known throughout the school and hangs around with the 'popular girls' and the 'jocks' Her mom is very uptight and is determined for her to be a human Barbie.

Taylor: She is Lexi's closest friend. She is more laid back and wilder than Lexi.

Heidi: She has an unending hate for Lexi and sticks to Taylor like glue, near the end of the story, Lexi begins to warm up to her.

Theo: He's a quiet and unnoticeable guy that quickly forms a crush on Lexi and offers her a safe haven away from home and school.

Ruthie: She is Lexi's chill, nerdy, seemingly unattractive older sister. Her and Theo snap Lexi out of her trance and get her to move on instead of wallowing in self pity. She is witty, smart, and very overprotective, a great role model.

Ryan: Her boyfriend...of should I say ex-boyfriend. He's your typical jock hokey player and cheated on Lexi with Taylor, causing the chain reaction of the accident and this whole book.

Jarrod: Taylor"s brother, another jock and the driver of the car when it crashed into the tree. He secretly has a crush on Lexi.

Conflicts

There are two conflicts in this story. The external conflict was the drastic change in Lexi's appearance. Ever since the accident and the butt graft she had to get on her cheek, everyone views her differently: as an outsider, a freak, even some of the lame kids refuse to talk to her.

The internal conflict was the way she felt about her change in appearance. She quarantines herself in her room and pushes away her friends and her family, completely and totally depressed at the loss of what her face used to be.

Choices

Lexi has to chose to either roll around in her anguish for the rest of her life, or to lift her chin high and work with what she has, pushing past her insecurities and not letting anyone's snide comments faze her.

Initial Action

In the beginning of the story, everything was perfect. Lexi had her scar-less face with Ryan's arm slung on her shoulders. Then everything went sour. Taylor got fruity with Ryan, Jarrod tried to kiss her, and her face became as cracked as the windshield it flew through.

Climax

The climax of the story was when Lexi broke out of her shell and dared to step foot outside of her room. Even though she tried to conceal her face with a thick, dingy hooded jacket and wore mustard colored pants as a sign that she was a nobody, she finally roamed the halls of her schools after two week of being absent and two months of depression.

Theme

The theme of the story is to become a hero because heroes aren't created by bad times, but they are created when they overcome their hardships.

Personal Eval

Personally, this book was predictable and cliche. I expected her to be down in the dumps because she had a piece of her but sewn on her face an I expected her to overcome it then befriend Heidi. I only liked the book because the author wrote it with a twist with little stray details hiding around the corner and dancing just out of your grasp until you turned the page. I would somewhat recommend this book to people because even though this wasn't the genre I enjoy, it still held my attention. My personal favorite writers are Steven King and Dean Koontz.
