Meaning:
I think that the song talks about an affair. About a woman who is married, but in love with someone else. The lyrics say: ''my house of stone, your ivy grows, and now i'm covered in you''. I think that means that she's very in love with her lover. But she also fears that her husband might discover them, so she is indecisive, she doesn't know whether she should chose her husband or her lover. Her fear is expressed throughout the song, especially when she says: ''what would he do if he found us out?''. In my opinion, every person has a different vision of the song's meaning.
Questions:
-What is the meaning of the lyrics ''and the old widow goes to the stone every day''?
-Does the song talk about anything else apart from an illicit affair?
-How did Swift come up with so many metaphors for the song?

This song starts off like a Grimm Brothers fairytale, linking into Evermore's woodland aesthetic.
How's one to know?
"I'd meet you where the spirit meets the bones
In a faith-forgotten land"
By the chorus it becomes clear Taylor Swift is singing of a married woman's clandestine affair.
"My pain fits in the palm of your freezing hand"

Taking mine, but it's been promised to another

Ivy is an evergreen plant that can climb on masonry to about 100 feet above the ground. Here, Swift is alluding to how her love for her extramarital beau has grown to where she is now "covered in" him.

"My house of stone, your ivy grows
And now I'm covered in you"

Now Swift finds herself completely enamored with her lover, but she fears what would happen if her husband finds out about their affair.

-What do you think about the song?

-Does Taylor have experience with love?

-Why did Taylor choose plant ivy and no others?

I think the song tells the story of an affair and that the affair came to life because of her having lost faith in her marriage
'in a faith forgotten land'
her affair gave her hope
'you touch brought forth an incadescent glow
tarnished but so grand'
the tarnished could mean 2 things
1. it's tarnished so he gave her hope but she still is unhappy
2.she finds having an affair bad because of that tarnished.
The old widow goes...
from that line and 2 below, could be a metaphore to grieving for the death but she grievs for the living or it simply really is a widow she knows but the meaning concludes into the same.
11-13 -> promised to another(her husband) and freezing hand because they're outside hiding or in some other remote place -line 4
line 14- she cant stop but dream about being together with him (affair).
15-16 - he embraces her and the house of stones could have many different meanings
1. ivy is a plant that can cover whole houses that could be a metaphore to him embracing her.
2.house of stone could be her heart and the ivy grows is because of him still trying to completely reach into her 'heart of stone'
3. im overthinking it

(cant stop you from planting roots in my dream lands could be another hint of it being a metaphor-those roots are the ivy roots that try 'taking over her dreams')->
4. house of stone are her not having hope/no dreams/no happy dreams - the ivy grows are again him giving her hope and trying to turn the 'tarnished' light into something even brighter (more hope)

18-19 -his curse could be his kindness(metaphore).
20-22 -when her husband is there she wants only to be with her affair.
opals are 'shiny stones' so another metaphor.
He still wants her (maybe hes even possesing because of line35)
-refrain-
line 30- 4 leaf clover means luck and bloom means spring is starting.
31- also says it
32- she fears her husband
33- he isnt sleeps because its night.
34-35 -again she fears him, she knows his dangerous.
37- moments that we stole, the small memories they made together across the little time they are together (it should be around 2-3 months-winter to spring)
38- begged to husband to let her go/affair to go because dangerous and/or save her.
borrowed time, the little time they could have together when 'the coast was clear'
39- she wants to leave her husband and join her affair.
40. she is afraid of what could happen/will happen to them if they go away (because she doesnt wanna give up on her affair-'cant stop you from planting roots in my dream lands')
41. because of ths line i reffered to him as her husband this could also have multiple different meanings.
1.im looking at it from the wrong perspective and its in older times so the husbands wine is his blood who the affair has to take- kill the husband.
2. wine is a metaphor to her and the affair has to take her away from the husband.

43-44. its a fire she tells the affair its dangerous- its a blaze in the dark- she also doesnt know what to do-shes in the dark, the blaze is a danger and she cant find a way to overcome that danger because of the darkness.

you started it-maybe they are having a confrontation because of her frustration she says its his fault or she says it to the husband.
47-48. a war for her freedom

question:
what does spirit means the bone mean?

The Name of the Song is Ivy it talks about death, grief, infidelity... and has lots of metaphores.
The Protagonist of the Song (maybe Taylor Swift) has lost faith in her marriage, because of that she becomes depressed, but suddendly heir 'affair' appears he makes her happy and she wants to stay with him eventhough she is scared of her husband finding out and hurting or maybe even kill them 'hes gonna burn this house to the ground'.
she doesnt give up and tries resisting her husband.
In the end it seems like 'taylor swift' and her affair or husband have an argument
-->she says 'you started it' multiple time sounding like shes desperate/angry.

My question is what does 'where the spirit meets the bone' mean?
