1) history: Last emperor of China on 12 February 1912, was forced to move out of his palace and become a commoner and returned to the palace as a visitor again. If I was him, I would be very sad and unfair and ironic, as it was a palace that I lived in but I got forced out instead and went to return to the place after that.
2) differences : Beijing airport is spacious and quite plain but Singapore has more beautiful airports, the driver seat is at different sides ( Beijing is left, Singapore is right side), restaurants in Beijing is very lively when Singapore eats in silence, they use dumplings as a stapler instead of rice or noodles like Singapore, different police uniforms and different buildings decorations in Singapore
3) appreciate: safety in Singapore and cleanliness, singapore is very safe with all the street lights and there are multiple security Guards and police cars patrolling around, Beijing is very dark with only a few street lights which kinda portrays a scary environment. Some of the toilets in Beijing are not as clean as Singapore and some of the people just spit at anywhere they want but people rarely spit and make these actions in Singapore, as Singapore is progress towards a clean nation.

Beijing Airport is different compare to Singapore Airport as there isn't much shop for tourist but its spacious compare to Singapore Airport. And when scanning our fingerprint we use four finger instead of two. After today trip I appreciate Singapore weather (humidity) and the safety in singapore.

I realised that I am very lucky to live in Singapore. Ive noticed that houses and cars in Beijing is insanely expensive and SG did a better job in managing the traffic and providing affodable housing estates.
Moreover, I noticed that the distance between the aircraft and the baggage collection point is very far and Singapore was better at providing accessibility and convenience for its people and tourists.

I enjoyed and got to taste traditional chinese food. Unique shops that sell traditional and modern goods can be seen along the streets and I got to learn that duck is very common and popular among Beijing people and tea is very prevalent in Beijing. Ive got to have an insight on the Beijing culture.

Having a car in Beijing is a luxury since the tour guide mentioned that 20 percent of the people who buy cars do not drive it since there are too many checkpoints.(driving the whole day would cost 90yuan).

I expected the street to be filled with tourists but surprisingly there were quite a number of local people there
I’ve also tasted different kind of dumplings 🥟 it’s a bit to much but like it’s still quite ok

Other than that, they are also somehow divided by social status. Before the trip, I thought that it was going to be very hard for me considering i don’t understand how to read chinese characters and converse fluently in mandarin. However, after today, I’m glad that i have friends who are willing to help translate ! -Farzana

First impression is the airport is very big and modernised as seen the trains and travelators. Airport personnels are helpful and professional. Singapore Changi Airport has better interior designs and attractions to entertain the tourists where as Beijing Airport is more practical as seen sim card machines. Qianmen street is crowded and prices of items were higher than expected but my biggest takeaway is to get to walk along the streets admiring the ancient infrastructures which is usually seen on comic books or television(and finding really nice tea candies).

I learnt that dumplings are the staple of the people in Beijing and they will order many of them to eat instead of ordering rice. There are also many different associations in the past to protect people from that associations. I feel that the immigration process in Beijing is different from Singapore as 4 fingers from both hands need to be scanned in Beijing. It is also safer and cleaner in Singapore than Beijing as there will not be many pickpockets and people are not allowed to spit in public places.

The designs of the buildings are really intricate and traditional. Red lanterns can be seen hanging from the tops of the building. The streets were busy with white noises of the sellers shouting to promote their stores. It was honestly a sight to behold. With many pagoda roof like buildings, the darkest alleyways and the bright streets signs. The lights of the stores and the aromatic smell of food with the cool breeze blowing through your hair is an experience and feeling that one cannot imagine. Even words cannot sufficiently describe how I felt, as at that moment, I felt like a part of that community, as we witness the locals way of life while spending quality time with my group mates as our laughter can be heard from miles away.
-Cherish

As i always thought that there will only be like chinese here but actually there are mongolians and many more. When he was forced out of his palace, i imagined that he probably would have felt very overwhelmed, and felt unfair. Forced out of his palace and luxuries, i'd say that is pretty life changing. He returned back to the palace as a commoner, which i would say its quite interesting, because what was once his home is now a place where if he wanted to go, it would mean that he was "visiting" .
Differences: maybe the types of toilets. In Singapore, most of the toilets are sitting toilets, whereas in
China, most of the toilets are squatting toilets.
What i have learn to appreciate: i have learn to appreciate the cleanliness of Singapore's toilets and hence i am grateful to be born and to live in a country that meets the needs of everyone in order to lead a comfortable life.

Although at first I thought qianmen street was like Chinatown in Singapore, there were more details to it, in china they sell things which are more traditional than Singapore which sells things with a mix of Singaporean taste. This is because of the different group of people living in china and Singapore and definitely there is a difference between the Chinese in sg and the Chinese in china - krishmita

(sorry can't relate but still thankful for the wonderful halal lunch). It would be nice to let everyone know what exactly you learnt about the Han dynasty and the city of Beijing. I know our local guide was sharing quite a bit of information but pick one fact that made you go 'wow' and use that in your reflection. For me it was the population of Beijing which is around 26 million souls and I saw a actual Tesla on the road. I know yesterday was tiring but today will be more fun. Listen, learn and enjoy the Forbidden City and Tianamen Square.

Visiting the temple give me a powerful background of Chinese history , culture and the education system. Confucius, playing a huge role in the development of China's education in the past, has become a so-called immortal that people respect even after many centuries. I felt truly impressed by him of how he upholds his way of teaching and the book of change that he has made that give many insightful knowledge to the next generations.

So firstly i have learnt about the musical instruments there, they only used 8 kinds material. I think they used metal, stone, string, bamboo, clay, leather, wood and groud(?). At the temple, there are also lots of nice scenery and the weather was cooling. I also really enjoyed the kungfu show, when watching the show i can tell that they put in a lot of effort into the performance. When the kid did a flip with his head i was shocked as i think the kid is only about primary 4 or maybe even younger. Therefore this teaches me that at any age if we want achieve anything it is possible.

Today was an exciting day where we visited the confucious temple and guozijian. It was a great time spent as we learned about some of Kongzi's teachings like how we shouldn't get angry with narrow minded people as it makes us even lower than them. But of course in my opinion, today's main was the forbidden city with a special mention of tiananmen square. It felt extremely surreal as we were within the walls of the forbidden city. It was as though we travelled throigh time to view the things of the past as it was. I was especially excited as after watching the drama of the yanxi palace, I wanted to see and compare with my own eyes of the palaces of the concubines and emperor with my own eyes. (Especially surprised when yamxi palace was burnt) After that, not forgetting, was the Kungfu performance. It was a sight to behold as they did many cool aerobatic tricks with the usage of vibrant lighting and powerful sound effects. It was especially impactful as there was a hint of mystery. My favourite line there was when they stated "You may think that you are at your strongest point, but your strongest point may also be your weakess point". That line stuck to me as for some reason, I don't understand it. But somehow at the same time, I understood it. Of course while exiting the performance hall, i had left in a somehow fruatration. I didn't fully understand the story they were trying to portray. Were they talking about endurance, never giving up or fear of the unknown? Though it left my mind in a mess, it was an amazing one of a kind performance.
-Cherish

We went to the Confucius temple to learn about how the people in the past learn and further their studies, we learnt that the people would take the exams multiple times in the village exam, regional exam, and only the best of the best of each exams can make it to the temple to learn. It’s very interesting that the emperor could go to the temple and give lectures around 2-3 times a year, this shows how education in the past was very serious. And we should be serious about our studies as well and take any opportunities that could help us in our studies. After that we also went to the Tiananmen Square, there are the Chinese Museum, Great hall of people, memorial hall of chairman mao, monument of people heroes and the Tiananmen tower. We found out that Everyday there is a flag raising ceremony during morning and evening, we even managed to see the soldiers changing over to stand in the sun. Seeing how the soldiers stand in the sun, wearing their stuffy uniform shows us that we should not complain about the heat. This shows resilience as well and we should learn from them, to stand with pride and represent China. We also went to the Forbidden City after that and all the palaces were very beautifully decorated with some of the interior design coated with gold leaf. The tour guide also tells us that the number of animals on TOP of the palace’s roof represents how big the palace is and how important it is. There are some interesting things that we observed as well. For the forbidden city, there is only one way which is forward, no one was supposed to go back. The tramps here in Beijing is also connected to a line, which is something very fascinating and is something singapore doesn’t have. The Long trip from Tiananmen Square to the forbidden city until we reached the royal garden is a very long journey, it was very hot as well, and we managed to walk through everything. We showed resilience which we can also use in school life.

Day 2
History: Guozijian: its the best school in China at that time. If you are able to enroll in it despite coming from a humble background, you can really turn your whole life around. If you manage to pass the final exam, you would be able to work in the palace, and your life would be a story of turning from rags to riches.
Confucius temple: Everyone admired and looked up to Confucius as what he said was very wise and knowledgable. Many of the 好词好句 that we still use today for our principles is said by him. Hence, people built the Confucius temple as a tribute to Confucius and built Guozijian right beside the temple. Its so that when the scholars sit for their final examination, they are able to pay their respects to Confucius and pray for good luck for great results.
Forbidden city: the whole structure was a one way out thing, maybe to prevent any congestion. Once special place that many people would go to visit is definitely 延禧攻略(延禧: prolong happiness) due to the famous tv series named after it. It was built for one of 乾隆emperor's most favored Empress, Empress Xiaoyichun. The structure that could be seen was very westernised, with many pillars to the design od the westerners. But the structure was burned by the Japanese during the Japanese invasion and could not be returned to its original form. But still, it was spectacular to see such a beautiful sight that many people have talked about.
Differences: Ancient China worshipped their royalty alot, and would build many amazing pieces like the Forbidden City for the royals to live in and many more. Whereas in Singapore, we do not really see much places that would show to worshipping of royalty.
What values i've learnt: i learnt about resilence while walking the whole way, like walking through the whole of the forbidden city and many various places that required walking. Walking for around 3 hours straight was not an easy feat but we managed with resilience and perseverance.

At the temple the students will be able to receive private lessons from the emperor himself. The exam per subject will take place over 3 days and students will be in a isolated space, divided by cement walls. That will be where they do their exam, eat and drink, sleep and study.

1.i learnt about 孔子who is an emperor who is very wise and a lot of disciple look up to him.He personally taught students who was very smart, giving them wise quotes. It is uncommon to see someone in a higher position to give lesson to the students. The chinese people doesn't really believe in God and religion. They thought kongzi was their god as he was very wise.He have four disciples and 12 philosophers. The kungfu in Beijing is to fight for peace and not use it for violence. there is different kinds of animals on top of the palaces in forbidden city. it tells us the size of the different palaces. Animals include Phoenix n horses, the first one is a human riding on a Phoenix or a horses

2.the differences is that such history isn't found in Singapore. In Singapore we have many different types of religion. Moreover, we don't see people who is in a higher position giving lectures to students. in Beijing there are many palaces in the area. It was where the emperor used to live in. we do not have kungfu in Singapore but we have taekwondo to use to protect ourselves. they preserve these historical sites. it's like their are very proud of their history and culture.

3.things that I enjoyed is the Confucius temple it was really meaningful. I started looking up to kongzi. At first, I didn't know much about kongzi but after knowing more about who kongzi really was I starting looking up to him. secondly was the kungfu performance, watching the performance, it look effortless, however,, it takes a lot of effort to put up a wonderful show for us. linking back to our country. people here take things for granted. we give up easily whenever we face difficulty. the performers reminded me of resilience as some of them had to leave their parents at a very young age. in Singapore, people complaints whenever things doesn't go their way.

the visit to the Beijing no. 35 International High School was indeed an eye-opener. They have many amenties available and I was impressed with their fluent English.

Attending the Chinese Literature Class inspired me to work harder in Chinese Language as I realised that I still have much more to learn and what I am learning now is not enough and not even close to their standard. I enjoyed the class since the teacher explained the poems very well and I started to appreciate chinese poems. I used to only appreciate english poems and I am grateful for this opportunity.

Also, Ive learnt the importance of filtering my words and thoughts befofe expressing them. I have learnt that it is very important to think twice before talking to the China students and we had to leave a good image since we are guests. As a guest, we have to show our appreciation and keep comments to ourselves, as a form of respect.

Moreover, I have also learned the importance of showing initiative and that we have to step out of our comfort zones and communicate. This was pretty challenging but it was an enriching experience has I am now better at striking conversations with strangers(not very good yet).

The visit to the Hutonf and Yandaxie Strest had provided me with the following learning points:

-The trishaw uncle told me that he had to ride the trishaw regardless of the season and he would carry an average of 10-15 passengers per day. It kind of struck me that I am very lucky to be able to live in a comfortable environment and have pocket money without thinking about the money
Whereas some people living in poverty have to do hard and physically straining labour just for a few dollars.

-I went into a tea shop and the shop owners brother, (not that sober) was talking abt how Singapore shld established good relations with China and that Singapore would suffer without that relation. I wanted to express my opinions but I remembered that Mr Chong reminded us to not respond to any political critic or statements and just laugh it off. I realised that political topic is a VERY sensitive issue cuz I kind of got offended since I could not express my stand since that may start a fight. From there, I learned that I should never talk abt political issues since it may be offensive to some people and cuz unecessary conflicts or even fights.

The visit to the tea house made me realise that tea is being seen as a signature drink and cultural practice in china. Tourists would pay to experience a tea session and thus it shows the importance of tea in China.

Ive learnt that the chairman mao is a very important person in the local's hearts and I realised that locals think very highly of their leaders and respect them well. This is something that Singapore lack since Singaporeans do not have that strong sense of belonging and loyalty towards the leader and the country(just personal opinion).

The visit to the Confucious Temple was an eye-opener. The Confucious is a very diligent and diligent man who shared many important principals in life. From there, I realised how well China keep their past culture intact as many Chinese im China remember the Confucious sayings very clearly.

The tour guide mentioned that the Chinese would come to Tiaanmensquare to pay a visit to him as a form of respect and this clearly showed how grateful and appreciative the Chinese are. I feel that Singaporeans should adapt something like this and show more respect and be more appreciative of the things people do for them. We should shiw grattitude to others who have helped us and not take it for granted.

I saw many locals still admiring the place even when it has been there for many years. The place is well kept by renovating the area so that it is safe to visit the place. In Singapore it is very hard to keep such historic places. We need land for others well being like work and schools. It is important for us to have such places so that we can learn the history behind the place and enjoy the beautiful sight.

DAY 2

Today, i learnt more about the beliefs of chinese people. In the olden days, they strongly believed in immortality. I also learnt about how they look up to and respected Confucious. At the Imperial College too, i saw how the education system of China in the past, was similar to our education system here in Singapore. They took examinations seriously as the results determine whether they are able to work for the Emperor. In singapore, we also are competitive to get the best results in order to be qualified for certain courses. Then at Forbidden City, i got to see how an Emperor lived and the whole ‘city’ he lived in. The court at Tiananmen square was reflected in one of the currencies of China. This shows the significance of the building and how important it is to them. All in all, i’ve learnt more towards to the history of China and a bit of its culture.

Afterward in gu gong, tai he dian is the place where the emperor shang cao and i learnt that the emperor dont stay overnight at the same place every day. As in the past there always ci ke that want to attack emperor. Hence staying at the same place make it easier for them to know his location. Hence he will also stay overnight at different wife places. I also learnt that when the son grow up they need to leave the palace and go out of the palace and have their own home and family. Also we visited a popular historical drama yanxi gong where the place had gone through alot of incident during the construction as it is difficult to build the building bcs of the design.

we went to Confucius temple, forbidden palace and tiananmen square. Some of the things I learnt is that chairman Mao is a very knowledgeable leader and has read many books. one of his famous sayings is 己所不欲，勿宿于人 meaning if you don't like it yourself, don't give it to others. A interesting fact is that at tiananmen square, the four guards guarding the China flag is required to remain completely still and take turns every 40mins when guarding the flag. I am really impressed with their loyalty towards the country and resilience as it is really not easy standing still under such hot weather. The Confucius temple has really nice infrastructures and we get to learn how the education system worked in the past and how the Emperor will spread his teachings personally to his future potential officials and that Confuciusm is not a religion but a form of teaching and at the side, how a crafty follower of Confucius way of teaching caused Emperor Qin to burn away many Confucius books. The forbidden Palace is fascinating. we get to see how the living environment was like for the elites of the past and ways they counter fire given the palace is mostly made of wood eg. gold plated tin tubs of water placed in various locations around the palace in case a fire occur and how the buildings were constructed to resemble the chinese 土 as in chinese 五行（金木水火土）土克火 ground counters fire. it's a very exciting experience as i get to finally visit the location my favorite Emperor once stayed in. I'm very impressed with how the people of the past find their way around as the palace is like a maze with towering buildings and unlike Singapore, we might not be able to see exactly where we are going because of the walls and also the possibility of there having more rooms in the past, making the palace even more complicated.

Actually,孔子is just a normal scholar with wise mindset. He was not related to royal palace but he was still acknowledged by the people. Heard from the tour guide that 孔子 can recognise other creatures if they are not human. 孔子 said before not to waste time to fight with people with no knowledge, “东虫不夏下语” means that mantis from winter will not experience raining season.

Secondly, in the past,China is ruled by those late emperor. However, in Singapore, there was President, Prime minister and others.
Thirdly, I have learnt that every chairman or emperor have the ability to gain trust from the citizen for example every citizen is polite to chairman mao.

2.Firstly, I was inspired by how they cherished those antique pieces from 16 centuries . In Singapore, this is somehow rare as there is not alot of antique pieces to be remain clean and the design of those plates are still clear to be seen.

Secondly, I was inspired by how those artifacts can be still around after a few centuries for example yan xi palace.
3.

国子监:I learnt about the teachings of kongzi and the reasons why people respect him so much. He was just a commoner but he made use of his knowledge to help people become better humans. His teachings has very profound depth in terms of content and has an influence in me to become better at understanding life values and life I general (how to treat people etc)
紫禁城+天安门广场:we visited the tiananmen square and the forbidden city. While on the tiananmen square I learnt about the significance of the buildings such as the congress biulding (the picture behind the 100yuan note ).we also witnessed the changing of soldiers while waking around the square. We found out that soldiers would stand in their positions for roughly 40 mins and not move at all because of respect towards their country. They value the importance of why they must carry out that duty in the scorching sun and do it with full conviction. I really admire their patriotism for their country.
The forbidden city allowed me a short glimpse into the lives of past expresses and emperors' .we visited the site and it has many interesting features such as the copper vat coasted with gold.it was used as a bathtub for the emeperor and for fire prevention in the palace(as the palace is not fire proof). The layout of the palace is also very meaningful because the top of the place signifies the order of importance of the itself.
Overall the experience is very enriching and I learnt alot about the Chinese way of life in the past

1. i learnt that the Kong zi is really famous in the past. He was known as a famous thinker and educationist and he was also the first to open up a school in china and ended up having 4 other students who got knowledge from king zi and the 5 students then continued teaching 12 other philosopher. When king zi died his teaching was collected by disciples and then passed down to other people. I also learnt about guo zi jian which is a imperial college with the highest educational institution. In the tiananmen square, the soldiers have to stand in the hot sun for 40 mins just to guard the place.

2. One difference that i found out today is the the way they protect their country’s properties and be so secure about it. But the way they guard it is really professional and neat. While in singapore when we guard something we will guard it normally.

3. A few values that i learn is from the soldiers. They showed perseverance and professionalism towards their country and they respect their country a lot therefore they would do this for their country. I think that we all should show more professionalism and perseverance to the homeworks that the teacher gives.
