The concept of a single note is a way to give structure within a song that artists create. Artist use this by staying within a single note of a song so listeners can fully hear and understand the feelings of the artist portrayed within music. Single note gives artists and listeners the chance to portray the artists true creation within the piece. Ratliff uses the song Thelonious by Thelonious Monk as a example of a song that sticks to the same tone. There is also repetition of the same notes in the piece. This repetition of the same notes forces the listener to hear the notes in full, the piece has a natural melody that makes listening to the piece comfortable to listen to as if Thelonious Monk was a listener himself rather than the artist. I used the Another Part of Me by Michael Jackson as an example to represent this music concept because throughout the song you hear a repetition of the same melody staying witin the same tone of the song. Michael Jackson uses this song to represent sending love to others throughout the whole world. Like Thelonious song you hear the same pattern of repetition. The repetition gives more power to a the message that Micheal Jackson is sending to spread love to others.
