Dallas Symphony & Colorado Springs Philharmonic

The two American symphonies that I looked at were the Dallas Symphony and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. These two groups both play music from the Classical Era of music as well as play some contemporary/modern pieces to help add in some depth to the music selection that these groups play from. As with the Dallas Symphony there is a concert where an arrangement of John Williams pieces are being played as well as an arrangement of songs from the movie Home Alone. The Colorado Springs Philharmonic has a Westside story concert as well as a concert that involves jazz and swing music to break out of the classical canon shell. In my opinion, there should be more scores from famous plays/musicals and movies like the CS Philharmonic did with Westside Story and like the Dallas Symphony did with Raiders of the Lost Ark.The music played by these two groups allows me to see myself in the music by immersing me in the color and sound of the music. I picture myself in the setting that the two groups are trying to portray through the music.

This picture shows one of the ways that I think these groups "innovate" and give some flair to their music selection. They play scores from popular works in addition to their usual classical music.

This shows the color that music can show the viewer when the listen close enough. Everytime I hear classic music it immerses me in the color. I see myself in the music everytime I hear a song because it's saturated in the color.

This song shows how modern show music can still be very engaging to the viewer just as classical music can. That is why I think it is important for these music groups to play these pieces in order to keep innovating and adding to the standard.
