The theme that I chose for this particular found poem was the idea of adjustment. The characters are constantly faced with having to adapt and change their lives due to the severity of the war. They have to do this both inwardly and outwardly because their daily lives and their internal monologues continue to adapt to the horrors of the hate and the war going on around them.

I chose to focus on words that would show how the characters have had to adapt and change and even practice their new way of being. The words "hesitate, nod, shift" show that they don't want to make these changes, but they have to, with the nod (of agreement), and eventually, they all shift into this new way of being. The phrase, "against her right" means that they didn't want these changes to occur, they simply had to adapt.

I theme that I chose was different. In other poems change, just like this one. It started out appealing, when it all changes to a mismatched world. Old and new, all is different.

I chose to focus on the words because in the beginning it sounds welcoming, while the end is rejecting. People don't want to be around a crooked world, they want to be in a joyful world. This time period in general is depressing.

I chose to focus on the light but cheerful colors on the top where it says it is beautiful. Then I decided to use the depressing, dull black to just show the words from the poem because it wasn't a nice time that they were in. The theme of my poem is the fear of life in Copenhagen with no electricity nor anything. The last line however gives the sense of hope for something better in the future.

I used the lines, 'Annemarie and Ellen always avoiding the tall soldier and his partner', to show fear because Annemarie and Ellen were very scared of that encounter. I used the lines, 'Still grew terribly cold, electricity was rationed, candles for light', to also show fear and bitterness. Imagine living in a place where you grew colder each day and with limited electricity. You would feel frustrated and that's why I added the line, 'sometimes frustration'. The theme that I chose for this particular found poem was the idea of convincing. I chose this because they are living in a horrible world and they can't do anything about it, so I thought they should have courage and try to defend for themselves.

I chose to focus on words that would show how the characters have had to try to have courage and stand up for themselves. To me practice meant Annemarie trying to repeated exercises in of an activity or skill so as to acquire or maintain proficiency in it. Convince meant to me that Annemarie is persuading the soldiers. Lastly threaten meant to me that Ellen is worrying about the Jewish people.
