I think it was a success though because it helped get rid of slavery. It gave us new laws and supported equality to all male citizens. It gave us the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendment which helped abolish slavery and freed former slaves. Reconstruction also gave former slaves and poor whites their own land and tools. I know we would have gotten rid of slavery even without Reconstruction, and that we wasted a lot of money on something people didn't even want to do. But Reconstruction still helped push us to abolish slavery.
