Key points I learned from the resources reviewed:

Link between high screen time and mental health issues such as depression and anxiety

If one keeps switching attention from screen to screen, they are training themselves to become chronically distracted

Social media users and viewers are the social media's "product"; we pay with our free time

Social media must be learned to be used in moderation

An ideal future for society would be where technology is built on our values and not our screen time

Design ethicists study and know how to ethnically steer people's thoughts when using tech

Tech tip: Do not use a phone as an alarm clock and do not check notifications in the morning (I am very guilty)

What resonated with me the most was Dino Ambrosi's Ted Talk about the costs of social media, especially with the visual analysis he provided that an average 18 year old person will exceed 26 years of screen time until they reach the age of 90, crazy to me/reality check!

To create a healthier relationship with tech, for the next week I will:

Do my best to wake up without using my phone alarm or buy a mini alarm clock for my room

Not checking notifications on my phone as the first thing I do when I get out of bed

7 days later...

And here's how it went...

I failed miserably the first day of the tech challenge and my dad had to wake me up so I bought a mini alarm for the remaining 6 days and I was successful waking up without using my phone as alarm and using an actual mini alarm. I like the mini alarm I got and will continue to keep using it as my main alarm in the mornings going forward.

This tech challenge was a success for me all days and I did not check my phone notifications when I got up. I will continue to carry on this healthy tech habit.
