The military family: This topic is of interest to me because I am a military family. My husband is active duty in the US Air Force and we have a two year old son. Additionally, I've worked closely with military families since I began working for the Dept. of Defense in 2013 so the well-being and proper development of children is very important to me.

This topic will analyze different aspects of military life and research how they impact children. Both positive and negative impacts are anticipated. Specifically, the social emotional health and support will be evaluated.

Over the past 6 years, I've worked with countless military families each going through a different struggle. Deployments, relocation, short notice training's, frequent spouse job changes, changes in child care providers & medical providers, stress of being away from family, worry of active duty member being kicked out of service, the list is seemingly endless. During these challenges, I've seen the behavior of children dramatically change, spouses feel unsupported, childcare providers cannot relate to these circumstances and healthcare professionals are going through similar struggles. Research is needed on how what main factors affect child development, how to assist and guide parents and caregivers during these challenges, and what spouses and families feel they need from the military branch.
