I was always insecure, I thought everybody judged me for the clothes i would wear and the way i looked until i realized that the opinions of others do not matter. As long as i am happy with the way i am that is all that really matters

The internal struggle Ellie faces when he arrives to the camp is denial of God. He doesn't believe anymore and starts questioning how can he let that happen.
