The theme of my story is that it shouldn't matter if you are black or you are white. Sadly, rasism and hatred towards blacks still exists today. In the book "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett, the author states,"'He was a real nice Martian, Mister King. Looked just like us nose, mouth, hair up on his head, but sometime people looked at him funny sometime, well, I guess sometime people was just downright mean.... Cause he green." (Stockett, 349-350) This quote means that Martian Luther King is just like every white person, but they judge him because he is black. Another quote from my text that supports my theme is when Aibileen says,"'So we's the same. Just a different color,' say that colored girl. The little white girl she agreed and they was friends." (Stockett, 235) This quote means that even though someone has a different skin pigment, we are all just human being

Miss Skeeter
Miss Skeeter is a white women who has a maid named Pascagoula. She has no children and still lives with her parents on their cotton farm. She has seen what Aibileen and many other maids have to go through everyday, so she decides to write a book about their everyday experiences. She feels that this will help change what is happening to them.

One internal conflict that all of the maids went through during the book is whether or not they should share their stories with Miss Skeeter. This is an internal conflict, because if they shared their stories they could be caught and killed. If they don't share their stories, then their working conditions and the racism wouldn't change.

One external conflict that happened in the book is between Miss Hilly and Minny. Miss Hilly was very racist and treated Minny like she was worthless. Minny had enough of Miss Hilly's attitude, so she made her a "special" pie. Miss Hilly's attitude and treatment of blacks lead Minny to be brave enough to tell Miss Skeeter her life story.

The resolution of the book was the actual publishing of the book that shared the life stories of twelve maids. It was the maids' opportunity to enlighten the world about the struggle of working black women in the 1960's. These brave women took a stand against the white families that they worked for. They risked their lives to expose the mistreatment and segregation of all blacks.

I would highly recomend this book. If you like a well written novel this book is for you. It describes the lives of both colored and white women in the early 1960's in Jackson, Mississippi. It is an eye-opening view into the lives of some very interesting characters. The writer capters your attention and paints a picture so clearly that you feel like you are a part of the story and you don't want to put the book down.
