The government forces expelled 862,979 ethnic Albanians from Kosovo, and several hundred thousand more were internally displaced, in addition to those displaced prior to March 1999. More than 80 percent of the entire population of Kosovo-90 percent of Kosovar Albanians-were displaced from their homes.

Tens of thousands of homes in at least 1,200 cities, towns, and villages have been damaged or destroyed. During the conflict, Serbian forces and paramilitaries implemented a systematic campaign to ethnically cleanse Kosovo--aspects of this campaign include the following:

In May of 2021, strikes in Gaza by Israeli forces killed 242 Palestinians. Israel's targeted strikes included places such as medical facilities and personnel. Palestinian's were also subjected to unlawful displacement and eviction of their homes by Israeli authorities. The oppression Palestinian's face also comes in the form of institutional discrimination. In The West Bank and Gaza, Israeli authorities treat Palestinian's separately and unequally. In the occupied West Bank, Palestinian's often face segregation, largely prohibiting them from entering settlements.

Perhaps the most high-profile genocide of recent years is that of the Rohingya, who live in Rakhine state in northwestern Myanmar.


Unlike the majority of the Buddhist country, the Rohingya are Muslim, and have long suffered as second-class citizens in Myanmar because most people in the country believe they are illegal immigrants and "terrorists" from Bangladesh.


US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson officially declared the Rohingya crisis a case of ethnic cleansing on Wednesday. So far, up to 3,000 people have been killed in Myanmar, and at least 270,000 have been displaced.
