It was great to see new and old students. Employer engagement was well received, maths and English diagnostic not so well and 3 days is too long, it felt like we were dragging it out. Have we asked returning students at the end of the year what they would like in an induction? Have we spoken with other colleges? New staff were telling us how great there's were at the old place of work and seemed a long way from what we have produced.

Great sessions in Induction and the introduction to all aspects of the hospitality areas and the staff. This was very informative to the students and gave them a great idea of what we do and how it is done. With the added bonus of a qualification in their first week.

It was very informative to have the diagnostic done in induction and observing students how they approach the activity and able to mark the assessments before teaching commenced and therefore able to hit the road running in the first week of teaching. It was good that the students could see that maths, English and vocational are working together - for example in hospitality and sport vocational tutors backed up the English and maths team( for e.g. incidences with students not taking it seriously or constantly talking through out assessment even though told numerous time to stop). Showing how important English and maths is for themselves, their career prospects etc. It is also great to know who we are having in lessons before we start teaching as we are already being able to point out students who might have support needs, are at high risk due to behaviour , which means we can nip this in the bud, before the 1st week of teaching is even finished. :)

I think it would be better if the students taking English came to the English classroom to do the Diagnostic as it is pointless them doing it if it is not being marked. They would also see it more as part of their programme not an add on. I also need to know the Grades for language and Speaking and listening to know if they have to do it again this year. Useful to have an insight into the students before the full teaching timetable commences
