I like to use Zearn for independent math times for when students aren't in small group with me. What works best for my students is doing grade level whole group, then small group or Zearn (30 min small group and 30 min Zearn daily). I use Zearn to support what they are working on in small group and tend to adjust levels to match their personal level. It is great to use as a WIN (What I Need) time in math.

We like to teach a whole group lesson, then we break into smaller groups for either Independent Zearn time or additional support for those who need it from the main lesson. After 30 minutes we switch and the students in small group go to Zearn and the students who were on Zearn work on independent work at their level or get additional help to clarify questions from their Zearn time. I can check this through the Zearn reports.

On Zearn, students will work individually and at their own pace on skills they may need more reinforcement with. These skills that they are working on will help strengthen their skills with the grade level content we also cover in our other small group stations.

I knew a little already, but had little understanding. I can now target struggles for me students by knowing what to look for. Zearn is great because it gives the students practice and reinforces what they have learn and I am able to check their understanding when they are working independently. I also like the new zearn part so that I can add intervention. I can also change their assignments.

One half will work with me while the other half are on Zearn working independently for 20 minutes and then I will switch groups. The students work at their own pace while working on Zearn. At the end, I show the pace report so the students can see how many lessons they completed. Everyone has a goal of completing 4 or more lessons by Friday.

I finish my lesson with an exit ticket. I also use the data in zearn to inform my instruction such as if there are common misunderstandings, I will pull a group of students to reteach those concepts.

While they are working on that I will pull small groups to teach and assess gaps that I see with the first grade math skills we are working on.

In my classroom, Zearn is used daily. I teach the mini lesson to the whole group. We do a brief fluency activity and application problem as a whole group as well. We then split into two groups for about 30 minutes each. While students are with me we work through the problem set in order to clear up any misconceptions. The other group is working on Zearn and then we switch. At the end of the lesson we take 5 minutes to complete the exit ticket. The exit tickets are given a quick 0, +1 or +2 so the next day I can address any misconceptions either individually or as a group. On Fridays, I check Zearn workbooks and if students have completed their 4 lessons for the week, they can play math games or prodigy while the others get individualized assistance or complete any remaining lessons. During the week students move their clips up our Zearn chart so they can keep track of their progress.

For that group, I have some of the students working on a lower level to reinforce number sense, recognizing numbers and adding to 10. I can pull this group and work with them on the similar concepts. After looking at the reports, I am able to have students fill in the gaps of learning material that they do not remember. I use Zearn to build upon so students are able to complete larger number addition and subtraction problems

Because many of our students are below grade level, we have adjusted their Zearn level if we notice they are at a higher level because of over-supportive parents during remote learning. By ensuring that their Zearn level is correct and the are not frustrated, we can continue our grade level teaching during our whole group time and use Zearn to fill in some of the gaps that have occurred due to unfinished learning.

I use Zearn everyday in my math block, and it is especially helpful as a transition tool. Being part of our routine gives our students peace of mind and allows for built-in computer time-- which they ALWAYS enjoy having.

I look forward to using zearn with my 8th grade math class. I look forward to using it as a tool to identify where students are struggling, and to look for trends to inform my instruction. I am brand new to math instruction so I am very excited about learning about the tools the RCSD has for supporting instruction and teaching in math. I may use zearn as a station rotatiion, wondering if I can use it as a "fun" homework, or if it works better in class as an intervention?

Anna I plan on using Zearn as a center. We will be using Zearn daily during my math block. I am teaching Kindergarten so I will be. I will be blocking at least 20 minutes. I will continue to check the Alerts daily/I may even have my co-teacher check in real time. I'm very excited about exploring the foundational skills.

I use zearn as a homework tool. In HHT I only get an hour to teach Reading, Writing, and Math, so utilizing zearn as a support tool has been very helpful.

I have been using Zearn during my MTSS time. I use this time to help small groups of kiddos and when I am working with a small group on math, the remaining students are working on zearn lessons to reinforce learning. However, I will be using if much more efficiently now that we have new features.
