Figure out the cost of a generator and supplies that could be used during major storms when electricity goes out. Look at the amp output of the home fridge, then compare generators to see which one will be able to handle running electricity to the fridge. Then make a list of all supplies needed and the cost of each item. Then pull local data on the area they live to see if there are any local resources to help purchase the items. For Science this could be a hurricane/catastrophic event preparation part that could be used in the safety portion of curriculum throughout the year.
