The students carried out extensive research and practical responses that resulted in the development of their own distinctly personal ideas regarding the subject, using their knowledge of photographic techniques, materials and processes. The outcomes produced by the group are diverse, experimental and visually sophisticated responses to the brief. Course Leader Jeremy Boggon said; “The students really valued the opportunity to experience a ‘live’ project that developed their own initiative and problem-solving skills. Their responses to the brief are all highly personal, visually engaging and full of energy. The house offers an educational visit called the Storysaurus Stomp. It is designed to get children age 4-5 ready for writing and uses the dinosaur trail to inspire the children. The education team at Knebworth were looking for a cartoon dinosaur character to use on leaflets to accompany this programme. The client briefed that the design should be appealing to children aged 5 and under and their teachers. They stipulated the following: a cartoon dinosaur who is carrying a book, an eye-catching colourful design and that the dinosaur should not scare young children; it should be a happy dinosaur. The designs are potentially for use in leaflets which are given to the group for when they spend time in the dinosaur trail and additionally on teacher information sheets, social media, the Knebworth House website and other marketing materials.The students responded very positively to the brief, they researched children’s characters and dinosaur designs in order to identify the kind of visual style that might appeal to the specified age group. All students developed a range of designs and many of them come with a background story for example one student chose to base his design on a Troodon because this species was known as the friendliest dinosaur. The students have created some colourful designs and these have been received very positively by Knebworth House The client is currently reviewing the designs ready for feedback and potential further refinement. The skirts needed to be stretchy and quick to change into. Our students worked within a simulation of a factory setting with each student working on a different process. Cancer effects one in two people where many lose their hair while under chemotherapy. The fashion students created their own fabric prints and stitched these into comfortable and wearable head scarfs. It’s OK To Say aims to encourage people to address their mental health and wellbeing. The Multimedia Design & Animation year one group produced an animation based around Mental Health Awareness Week. The theme of the animation was Children’s Mental Health and the aim of the animation was to educate a young target audience on mental health awareness and to break the stigma around it.The broad aim of the project was to challenge ideas surrounding children's mental health and to educate young people of some of the coping mechanisms that can help. Some mental health that were explored by the students included: Depression, ADHD, Bi-Polar, Anxiety. Students created their own characters, concept art and stories to create narratives that young people could identify with and would encourage them to recognise that they are not alone in dealing with issues concerning mental health and wellbeing. In 2015, the Graphic Design students produced an animation which went on to win the Hertfordshire Business award and this year, Tommy and Lottie have partnered up with the Creative Industries again to produce creative content to promote sustainability within sustainable fashion and educate the public on climate change and steps to save species on the brink of extinction. The UAL Extended Diploma Multimedia Design and Animation students created a series of short animations to raise awareness of an endangered animals that are suffering from drastic climate change. The aim of the animation is to educate the viewer on how to take steps to prevent this from happening by taking actions from home. Endangered animals that the students needed to animate were Orangutans, Polar Bears, Butterflies and Bees. Students created a proposal and a pitch to present to Katie Carr, the director and founder for Tommy and Lottie, and once they got the greenlight, the students produced their animations using industry standard software to animate and edit their animations to a professional standard. On 24th May, The Odyssey Cinema premiered the students’ animations at a private screening, where students and parents were invited to see their animations on the big screen.
