By: Caitlin Armel
The Magna Carta or The “Great Charter” was drawn up in the field of Runnymede on June 15th, 1215. It was made between King John and his barons, after they had failed to resolve the problem in England since John’s brother King Richard I died. It was made to limit the power of the English royalty and became the foundation of the principles of law. Habeas corpus was an act that says you cannot arrest someone that is not guilty. You must have evidence to arrest them. Habeas corpus means “show me the body”.
