Reception have been learning about the artist Kandinsky this week. The children explored how shapes and colours can be used to create abstract art. Inspired by Kandinsky, they enjoyed experimenting with their own vibrant and imaginative designs using oil pastels.

PE day for Reception Class is on Mondays 

Years 1 and 2 have dived into their new book about Victorian England, The Great Stink!
They’ve been loving the true tale of the brilliant engineer who helped solve London’s pollution problem. Year 1 even got hands-on with their learning—building their very own sewer systems and (of course!) sending a tissue-paper poo racing down their carefully constructed pipes. Learning has never been so delightfully gross!

PE days for Year 1 & Year 2 are on Mondays and Wednesdays 

This week, Years 3 and 4 have continued their Stone Age theme. Year 3 practised their acting skills by becoming the different rocks that make up Stonehenge, while Year 4 spent time in computing planning a news report about a mysterious disappearing stone. 

PE days for Year 3 & Year 4 are Tuesdays & Thursdays 

It was a cold winter evening when we walked onto the pitch, all of us feeling excited and a little bit nervous.  It was the first inter-school tournament for most of us!

The first match was tough because we were still trying to figure out our positions. Luckily Mia was in top form and didn't concede any goals.  By the second match, we were much more confident and had good possession of the ball.  Nina and Takondwa, our strikers, had lots of shots on goal.  We drew, which wasn't a bad result.  The third match against Burpham was hard.  A corner kick went to one of their players and they scored a goal.  Against St Joseph's we pulled our socks up - we came back onto the pitch feeling confident and believed we could score.  Surprisingly, we scored two goals instead of one!  Our defenders, Alyssa and Annabelle were also doing a great job keeping the ball away from our goal.

In our final league match against Holy Trinity, the team were now feeling confident.  Some good passes from Cumi and Ines in midfield, helped us secure another goal.  At the end of the five matches we were first in our league, which meant we were through to the final!  The final match was really nerve racking.  We were cold, tired and excited all at once.  We fought hard to keep the score at 0-0 and managed to take the game to penalties.  Nina, Ines and Mia were our penalty takers.  We were unlucky to lose on penalties, but we were still proud to come second out of all the Guildford schools.

In science this week, we were looking at how a circuit could work using  lemons as a source of chemical energy. Each lemon had two different metals- a zinc nail and a copper coin/wire -inserted into it. The acidic juice in the lemon acts as an electrolyte, allowing electrons to flow from the zinc  to the copper . When the lemons were connected with wires in a series circuit, the flow of electrons should create an electric current strong enough to light a small bulb! Our scientists came up with lots of fantastic reasons why our bulb did not light up!
