The mental health crisis is real, it affects the globe which includes Canada as well. The impacts on this crisis affects citizens healths, their lives and the economy. However education creates hope and new steps to end the crisis in Canada. Throughout years of studying and learning about mental illnesses, the way society reacts and treats those who have a mental illness has changed. Unfortunately there are many major obstacles in getting this crisis under control, and it needs to change.

The mental health crisis has a major effect on the citizens of Canada, there is not the help and support there needs to be in order to help people dealing with a mental illness. Hospitals are short staff, which makes it hard for the ones seeking help. There is a long wait to see a doctor, as well as there is not room to take these people. Men, women and the youth might be waiting months before they see someone or get a room in a hospital. The system is unpredictable and unreliable. Mental health is under looked since it isn’t a visible or physical injury. However, if there were more hospitals build and used specifically for mental health patients it would be a more reliable system and could open up more jobs which would pay for the cost of building. By creating more jobs the money goes back to the government, this means the hospitals would eventually pay for itself.

Another factor that puts a hold on the movement of mental health is education. Stereotypes created by society are apart of the past. Myths and beliefs about mental health makes people afraid and against those living with mental illness. People have the wrong ideas that surround mental illnesses, they don’t have the knowledge or right attitude to change the way they see people with an illness. Where as if people were getting educated, through school, at work, if the media made us talk about it and how to accept those who have a mental illness. ‘’No one is born racist.” Is a quote from Nelson Mandela, this quote can relate to the way we see a mental illness. No one is born with judging someone or something, it is what we are told and learn as we grow up. Education just one more piece to the puzzle on solving the mental health crisis in Canada, which affects us all.

Although there are many negative aspects that surround mental illness, such as money and stigma; there are many positive aspects. One thing being positive is what has been learnt over the years from the past of mental illness. The treatments have dramatically changed over the years, there have been studies that show what works and what doesn’t. Many famous treatments were known as electric shock therapy. Where they electrically shock the patient's body. Patients were often put into a deep coma with Insulin, another treatment was removing parts of the brain. A lot has changed which makes people working with mental health aware and knowledge on what these people need and want. Throughout the years, the way mental health was handled was unfair and dramatic. However, we learn from the past, history repeats itself and that shouldn’t happen to these people who have no control over it. It is important to be educated about the history of mental illnesses so that history doesn’t repeat itself.

In the mental health crisis, there is good and bad. However, there are many things that need to change for the better. This crisis affects everyone; everyone knows someone who is dealing with some kind of a mental illness. WIth the help of the government and their support, citizens can become aware and have the knowledge to face it instead of hiding the problem. There is money to be made by opening hospitals which creates job opportunities. History shouldn’t have to repeat itself, we should learn from others mistakes.
