I think this landform could of made it difficult for the Nazis since I believe they bring a lot of things with them and without a straight surface transportation would have been very difficult. The Nazis controlled these group of Islands so for the Jews to go in this area would be dangerous but if they Went it Spain's islands then it would be fine since Spain was neutral.
