1.)Better life for the poor
2.)Development for a modern economy 
3.)Restore China's position as a major world power
-China did however face challenges while trying to achieve these goals such as the large population of China needs needs to be fed, clothed, housed, and educated. 
 -China then lacked technology and capital to industrialize quickly.
-The country of China was damaged by the past so in order to restore China's power they would have to destroy the "old class system"
The Communists wanted to put the means of production under central government control.

However, in 1950 the government ended private ownership of land. The government in this situation forced peasants to pool land tools and labor to form collective farms.  The members received a share o the harvest but the government received the rest.
