Chinese culture has a lot of component, sub-cultures, involves a lot of ancient philosophy: Confucianism, Taoism, Taoism, etc. A lot of component and philosophies come from Chinese history.

People used to think themselves as a part of a bigger community, but now we have a fair balance of an individualism and a collectivism, by the influences of western philosophy.

The way we perceived the world is different. We rather see the world as some place more harmonious with the nature, we see ourselves as one with nature (天人合一; "Harmony between men and nature"), western culture interprets their relationship with the world as system themselves, identify themselves as dominator of nature, with emphasise on the importance of human race.

- Make friends from that community, from that language speaking culture.

- Being able to see things happening in both world, both Chinese speaking world and English speaking world. Being able to find resources and answers from different perspective for you to interpret an issue.

-Helpful in breaking the monolingual mindset, and breaking down the barrier between different culture, teaching Chinese in specific can bring more understanding of Chinese culture, and in what way Chinese people think about the surrounding, promotes social inclusion and understanding.

- Because it is so different from English, learning Chinese build a new way in processing language. Instead of limiting yourself, it richer your identity.

- For me, learning Chinese reinforce my identify as a Chinese. Because it facilitate my understanding of my culture root. China has huge bank of history that I can rely on to make meaning of the world, I have these rich resources to rich my own understanding of the world. History repeats itself, China has long timeline of history, around 5000 years, that is a rich data base. Things happened before, now showing up in modern society in a different way, I can interpret those things, make connections, and I can assess them in a very authentic way use the target language to approach. We have a lot of ideas came in the past, in Confucianism, in Chinese history, we have got different schools, we have got a time, an era of great cultural and intellectual expansion (百家争鸣; "hundred schools contend")… now we lost faith in academy…. There is a lot to learn.

Chinese language is beautiful. I love the beauty of Chinese phonology. Because Chinese is a tonal language, standard Chinese has 4 tones, some dialects even have 9 tones, therefore Chinese language sounds like a beautiful song. And I admire the beauty of Chinese calligraphy. Here is a photo of one of the calligraphy styles that I copied and was trying to learn.

For me, the most influential part of Chinese culture is classical Chinese poetry and literature. It is a treasure of a very considerable number of brilliant and profound works as each dynasty. It contains deep philosophical thinking of ancient Chinese people, and it strongly influence my value.

For example:
己所不欲，勿施于人。
(do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you)

勿以恶小而为之，
勿以善小而不为。
(Do not do evil things though they may be insignificant. Do not give up good things though they may be minor matters)

学而不思则罔，
思而不学则殆。
(To learn without thinking is labor in vain, to think without learning is desolation)
