Positive Aspects:

The lesson had achievable lesson outcomes planned, and there were lots of great resources made and used for the lesson. The activities were very hands-on, which the children really enjoyed. The plenary was a fantastic way of ending the lesson and assessing the children’s understanding at the same time. The children really liked to share their ideas with their peers, so having them assess each other’s understanding was a great idea.

Areas for Improvement:

To improve the lesson, during carpet time, it would be better to keep it short to allow all children to remain engaged in the learning. Be mindful of children sitting and not being active learners — you could have had more bags for the children to explore at the same time.

To provide more opportunities for independent exploration, I will add an investigation corner activity called “Heavy and Light Hunt,” where children will dig through a large sand box to uncover hidden objects of different weights. After discovering each object, they will test and classify it as heavy or light by sorting it into labeled baskets. This activity will encourage active participation, curiosity, and problem-solving through hands-on, sensory-based exploration in a fun and engaging way.
