I would dislike when people make fun of my accent for plenty of reasons. Most importantly, I would be “blackmailed” whenever walking past the people who had made fun of my name. They would also butcher my name to something hurtful. In my opinion, the people who make fun of me. I had tanned so much that people treat me as a slave. They call me and some other people “blackies”

I think that it is inappropriate to make fun of a accent made by a different race as this might offend the members of aforementioned race . Even when a member of a race makes fun of their own accent , they are making fun of themselves so I usually view their actions as okay to me . However I also believe that they should avoid making fun of even their own accent as even if they are not hurt , their friends who might have said accent could be hurt.

Q2: i am fine with people laughing at me because of my accent.i think it does not matter as even if we feel bad about it, nothing will change. But i think others might have a different opinion. I have some friends who are of the same race but r really sensitive. They dont treat this as a joke. I remember a time when someone laughed at my friend for her indian accent and she spent many hours crying. She even tried to learn the chinese accent to blend in. All in all, i don not mind others laughing at me, but i think u should mind ur words if others r sensitive.

I would feel offended and angry. Just because we have a different colour of skin, does not mean we can make fun of others. Once when I(Mithra) was at a hawker centre with my family, a waitress who was serving us, gave us a fork and spoon to use instead of chopsticks because the waitress thought that we do not know how to use a chopstick as we were indians.
We told the waitress that we knew how to use chopsticks and requested for chopsticks. The waitress gave it to us while we were eating, she kept staring at us.

My parents often put on a American or British accent when talking to an European friend or person.I find it wired because they have a natural singaporean and Indonesian accent so I don’t know why they are changing their accent when talking to certain people.When talking to someone with a different accent,I take note not to change my accent as they might find it hurtful or rude.I wish not to offend people by switching accents.

I usually never laugh at someone’s accent. However, I am never laughing at someone’s pronunciation. I will never try to blend in with their accent as it will leave a bad impression on me. Moreover it will hurt their feeling miserably due to the way I copy them. I think what these people do is mean as the person receiving these comments or being made fun of will become very hurt. I think people’s accents are a reflection of their own love for their race but others don’t have such opinions. When someone imitates someone else’s accent they also make the other person think that it is their fault that they have this accent and they will try to change it. We should not do such hurtful acts to others as it may come back to you in the future.

Sometimes, people have no control over their ”accents” and simply think that they are speaking clearly. However, others may find the way they speak funny, impersonating their “voice” for fun. On the surface, it can seem as a joke, but it can potentially make others feel insecure of the way they converse with others. Usually people imitate the people with a stereotypical accent even though they don’t have an accent. I would stand up for myself and say that that is how I speak and no one change that. It is unique to each and everyone of us and we should accept our differences.

I would not be rude and make comment about their accent when talking with someone with an accent as they can feel sensitive when I do so.

We should be respectful towards the different races in Singapore and live together with peace and harmony.

It depends. People who imitate accents can come in different ways. It could come out as a joke, but seen in an offensive way. However, there are some people who have to imitate accents for the job, which is fine, as it is for work. It depends whether i am trying to be funny while using my accent or not . If not, i would not be pleased if anyone laughs at my accent. I feel that accent reflects my culture and heritage.
