He also created a new technique for using oil paints, which leaves his works glowing with jewel-like brilliance till this day. Furthermore he is considered a founding father of oil painting.

He is credited with the invention of the oil-glazing technique, which replaced the earlier egg-tempera method. Jan van Eyck's portraits were wildly famous amongst Italians as they admired his work. His requests were absolutely filled at the time, and many admired and used his work as inspiration for their own pieces.
