Architects need the following skills:

talking to others
thinking about the pros and cons of different ways to solve a problem
noticing a problem and the best way to solve it
thinking about the pros and cons of different options and picking the best one
figuring out how a system should work and how changes in the future will affect it

abilities (same as skills?)

architects need to have lots of abilities, like coming up with ideas (that's a tough one), creating NEW and ORIGINAL ideas (a real doozy), communicating by speaking (I always struggle with this one), listening to and understanding people, add, subtract, multiply, divide, find the right math to solve a problem (geez, so demanding, huh?), and being able to see hidden patterns.
