         <title>I have experienced supervision in every learning and working role in the past but a notable exception was a GP locum (when one is very much isolated and on one&#39;s own). Supervision is, to me, having accessible support from a more experienced person who works closely with me. observes what I do (giving increasing responsibilities) such that I can grow in my knowledge, skills and confidence and ultimately be able to do the same job as the superviser. It can also mean review of my work from a distance, for example during appraisal and revalidation. There do appear to be different forms, for example: a superviser who facilitates learning ( eg. a more senior doctor directing the work of juniors on the wards); a provider of more distant, less instructive support (such as a mentor); or someone who ensures the reaching of standards ( eg. a consultant who signs off competence standards, or an appraiser).&amp;nbsp;</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>For me supervision is the observation of my work by a senior (doctor for example). The role of supervision is to critically assess (whether formatively of sumatively) the performance of the junior, in order to identify what is done correctly and what needs to be worked on or corrected. The goal being to help the junior develop his abilities in order to become himself a senior.&nbsp;<br>Supervision can take many forms, it can be direct as in observing the junior doctor take the medical history or perform the physical exam. It can be indirect as in reviewing the case with the junior doctor to assess his skills at making a differential diagnosis or doing the right investigations or treatments.Their is also the notion of progressive autonomy. It is expected that a more junior student will need (and get) more direct supervision and gradually as he learns, will be awarded more autonomy for mastered tasks.<br><br>Supervision should ideally make the junior feel safe about not knowing everything or not being able to perform the tasks expertly, the goal being to support the junior in his learning. The role of the junior is to know his limits and seek help when they are reached. He must also be prepared to accept feedback on his work given by the supervisor.</div>]]></description>

         <title>For me, supervision refers to the interaction between a more experienced and a less experienced/novice professional (in my case doctors/residents/medical students). The role of the supervisor is to make sure that the supervisee is doing his job safely but also that he learns what it needs to become a competent and  autonomous professional. The supervisor offers a level of support adapted to the needs of the learner. This implies that a part of the job might be done by the supervisor with a more junior learner and as the learner progress he will do more things by himself and the supervisor will offer a different type of support.   </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>To me supervision is the act of an experienced professional overseeing, supporting and guiding the work of a more inexperienced person. Both are working together to achieve a common goal.<br><br></div><div>There are different levels of supervision i.e. BSc students require a more intense form of supervision than PhD students, who are more autonomous in their research.</div>]]></description>
