One of the themes in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is perspective. The book shifts point of view frequently, either for comedic relief or to shed a different light on a certain situation. It also uses it to show how insignificant certain things are and how significant things really are. For instance one scene depicts a falling potted plant and its thoughts during the fall. The book says that "Curiously enough, the only thing that went through the mind of the bowl of petunias as it fell was Oh no, not again. Many people have speculated that if we knew exactly why the bowl of petunias had thought that we would know a lot more about the universe."

In life, everything is about point of view. It's how we justify what we do, it's what hurts other people. From one's point of view, something extraordinarily important could be portrayed as something so minuscule, and vise-versa. Earth is "far out in the uncharted backwaters of... the galaxy... orbiting ["a small unregarded yellow sun"]... is an utterly insignificant little blue-green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea."

In stories, point of view is one of the-if not the most important aspect of determining who the reader considers good or bad. For instance in the old Brother's Grimm tale Red Riding Hood, the protagonist is the red hooded little girl, but if you were to tell the story in the wolf's point of view the antagonist and protagonist would switch positions.

Another book with the theme of perspective is Gulliver's Travels. In the book Gulliver travels too an island where everyone is tiny. They view him as giant and attempt to capture him.
Gulliver also travels to an island where everything is massive and he is portrayed as doll size, captured and played with by a child on the island.

Perspective is such an important thing that it can be manipulated to make situations seem much worse than they truly are. In reality this person is just jumping up in such a way that when the camera is tilted 90 degrees they appear to be falling off a mountain
