I decided to do a hip-hop magazine as it is a popular form of music that engulfs many popular artists that cross over multiple genres of music. This allows me to cover multiple artists. Also Hip-Hop is a very popular form of music with a large fan base, also as some artists cross over genres it means that my magazine can cover artists who would be more associated with doing pop for example.

Overall I’m happy with the final outcome of my magazine as I feel as though it would appeal to people who like Hip-Hop as it is a relaxed informal style as it doesn’t use regular conventions of a magazine as it doesn’t have a running structure and is very changeable so if you look at my mock-ups my designs appear to change every time which makes it more flexible around the artist in my magazine so it can appeal to more people each and every week.

Do you think that it went well or as well as you'd hoped?

I think it went very well overall as I feel it fits to the majority of the conventions of a Hip-Hop music magazine as it has an informal approach and style to it. It also is quite bright and eye-catching so can grab the reader’s attention and could draw in more readers. So I think that it was successful in that way. A specific example would be that I had my masthead spanning the top of the page from the top left third to the boundary of the top right third which I think makes it look more professional as this is the style most magazines use like Billboard, NME and Q to name a few, I think it was good to look at magazines like this as they are successful magazines to so I can see what a successful magazine looks like. Another convention I followed is with pugs, as I have featured one so that people could win prizes in an attempt to expand my target audience. However I did it in an unconventional way by using an album cover of my artist as the pug with some text underneath it, this is challenging a pug as they are usually a shape of some sorts or styled like a sticker and very rarely do magazines use an album as a pug. Overall I did it in this style as I believe it best suits my magazine as it fits on my front cover in a subtle style. Another way I was able to enforce the conventions of a music magazine is by using a house style that is continually used throughout the magazine. In my Magazine I used the colours Black and Yellow as I fell the contrasting colours work well together. I was able to feature them on every page of my magazine which makes it look more professional and organised.
