         <description><![CDATA[<div>"my kids had all done basic life support, they cover it lightly at school but made them do the external course anyway.. unfortunately we did have to use our learnt skills at home.. after talking to my then 17yr old son after he assisted me to resuscitate his dad, he said that knowing about cpr before that event help him stay calm and not freak out.. you never know when you are going to need these skills, and sometimes only get one chance.. I'd say yes it should be taught in schools yearly." (Nurse)<br><br>"Are you serious ? Learn how to save a life as opposed to what???? Biology of fruitflies??. It would be the most valuable lesson they get in school. It should have been mandatory years ago." (From one of our Medical consultants)</div>]]></description>

It is characterized by:<br><br></div><ul><li>Situated learning contexts within which the application of knowledge and skills may be demonstrated&nbsp;</li><li>Tasks with ill defined real world problems</li><li>Sustained investigation (i.e., time and effort) to arrive at solutions</li><li>Scenarios with multiple roles and perspectives and where expert performances and processes are modeled (i.e., making tacit knowledge explicit)&nbsp;</li><li>Collaborative activities to produce real world 'products' or 'performances'&nbsp;</li><li>Reflective practice (as a basis for professional learning)&nbsp;</li><li>Scaffolding and coaching at critical times. Assessment of authentic learning should be seamlessly integrated with a learning activity that is practical, realistic and challenging.</li></ul><div><br>Benefits of authentic learning experiences</div><div><br>Educational research has shown that authentic learning experiences give learners the capacity to turn information into useful transferable knowledge and to build professional identity.
