The formed in 1765 because of the Stamp Act and they acted for change because of the unfair ways they were treated. The Sons of Liberty were the leaders of almost every main reason that the Revolution started. The Sons of Liberty used the hate caused by the Boston Massacre to start attacking the British and to actually make groups that wanted to leave the British Empire. They also were the ones that did the Boston Tea Party. They led the group that did it and this sparked it all over the country. At first he waited inside, but then he came outside with his gun and shot one of the boys. This boy was Christian Seider and it started brawls and fights all over Boston on March 2 and 3. This angered the colonists because they hadn't been taxed in years and they weren't making money because of the taxes. There were taxes on every product they were importing or exporting. In response to this, people from Boston were vandalizing buildings and were breaking laws. In 1768, the British were trying to control the colonists as best they can and they started to send British officers to the city. When there were extra soldiers they didn't have enough places to sleep, so they would come into a persons house and sleep in it, whether the family was okay with it or not. Having soldiers around them all the time, and being forced to live with them made the tensions rise even more because they hated everything that was going on. As the mob set in on the 29th regiment, they threw rocks, oysters, and snowballs. In response 7 armed British soldiers came out to disperse the crowd, with their guns raised. As they got hit with snowballs and rocks, one soldier accidentally shot his gun, prompting the rest of the group to fire thinking they heard the command. The firing killed two people immediately. Three people died by the end of the day from injuries, and 6 people were injured but they survived. The tensions skyrocketed because the people disliked the unfair laws, but many people didn't want to get killed. It created an environment that scared people. The Sons of Liberty responded to what happened on March 5 by using propaganda to fuel the hatred. They were one of the key things that led up to the revolution. Boston being one of the biggest cities in America at the time was very influential in making the states want to leave Britain and rebel away. The people of Boston were outraged by this. The Tea Acts allowed the East India Company to have a monopoly on tea, nobody else could import or export tea from the Americas. The company also didn't have to pay any taxes while importing or exporting any goods to America. This angered the colonists even more, especially the people in Boston. The Sons of Liberty made a large group of people and everybody dressed up as Mohawk indians and rushed onto one of the East India Company ships. They ran on and dumped over 300 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor, which ended up being over 18,000 pounds of tea. Today this is equal to almost 3 million pounds, which is a very very large amount for an already almost bankrupt company to lose. When the rest of the country heard about this it sparked people all over to storm ships and dump tea into the ocean. But the colonists saw it as they were treated as if they weren't part of the kingdom and that they were only used to make money. The colonists kept attacking British ships until battles broke out. They were supposed to send it a year before, but they didn't think that it was ready yet. They sent it at a bad time because on April 19 the Battle at Lexington and Concord happened. And then, on June 17, the Battle at Bunker Hill Happened. The actual document talked about everything that was done to the colonies that they didn't think they deserved. They were asking the king for help and they were blaming his advisors. They said in the document that they needed his help because he was the king and the only one who could help them. They talked about the great relationship that the king had with his subjects and especially the colonies. On August 22 he received the Olive Branch petition, and he didn't even read it.
