I think that social media can lead to depression but at the same time it depends on many factors: obviously a week person will be more influenced by what people say about them. Not to justify this event, but it is known that people always have to argue so I think that to enter a world like that of social media you need to have a strong character, and be sure of yourself.

Also because social media can cause addiction and when the object of the addiction is removed it can lead to depression.

In the world there are so many sensitive people who are influenced even by the smallest things seen online; for example they may feel lonely when they see a story where there is a group of friends who is having fun.

Unfortunately it's no one's fault if this happens because on social media everyone is free to publish what they want.

Also a lot of people follow more influencers and this people try to imitate them or copy what they do.

In our lives we should use social media once in a while and not every day to try to detach our mind and have fun doing something else.

I think it doesn’t cause itself depression, but it can include a wide variety of reasons to why it could lead to depression. Especially at our age when we’re teenagers we tend to spend most of our time on social medias as we don’t have any kind of big plans, apart from school.

It is very common to compare ourselves to a model that reaches the unrealistic beauty standards, so we feel uncomfortable with ourselves. Also, with the diffusion and development of technology social medias, people now can be anonymous so it’s easier for them to do negative actions, such as cyber bullying.

Now that we always have a phone in our hand, we may use it excessively so we tende to reduce our hours of sleep, inverting the reality with the display screen causing an addiction.

Andrea Delvecchio

For me social media can’t cause depression because depression is a mental issue caused by other events or traumas in the real life, social media only helps the evolution of depression because if you use them too much, you can become addicted to them and develop a severe form of loneliness which leads you into a situation of loss of socialization. I know a lot of stories about people, usually bullied at school, who locked themselves at home without seeing anybody like the famous Hikikomori in Japan.

Social media connects people but can hurt mental health, especially causing depression. Users often compare themselves to the perfect lives they see, which can make them feel bad.

It can also lead to loneliness, especially for teens, and bullying online can cause problems. Spending too much time on social media can disrupt sleep and lower physical activity, both important for feeling good. While social media can provide support, its negative effects are significant, showing the need for healthier habits online.

Social media has transformed the way we communicate, but their impact on mental health is controversial. For my opinion one of the reasons they can contribute to depression is constant social confrontation. Platforms are full of images of perfect lives, which lead people to feel inadequate or unsatisfied with their reality. This continual confrontation can fuel feelings of anxiety or depression. The phenomenon of cyberbullying is more widespread on social media, with the possibility of being publicly criticized or attacked, causing isolation and emotional suffering.

But to get this kind of desease, in my opinion, you have to have a very fragile mind to be influenced by the things we see on the screens

In my opinion there Is a straight relation between social media and depressions. I don't want to say that every people that use social media, in future Will be depressed, but in some people it's possibile that this consequence can happen. This thing Is more possibile in people weaker or more insecure. This people, when they Watch on social media other people that have some characteristics or that do some things, they can be come very envious. This envy can become insatisfaction about own Life and in this way can become a really depression. Depression can have terribile consequence and can even take to suicide. In this way I don't want that we should not use social media, but we have to know how to manage social media.

I think that perhaps excessive or inappropriate use of social media can have negative effects on mental health, and be addictive, but there could be some factors that can contribute and perhaps make you feel wrong or different, such as comparing yourself to other people on social media, or seeing influencers. another example could be cyberbullying which could cause serious mental and even physical damage to those who are victims. another personal opinion I have is not to give access to social media to children or in any case to young people who are too young because it could be easier for them to be influenced by what they see. so finally I don't think they are harmful to people but you just need to know how to use them intelligently and entertainingly.

I think social media can cause depression because sometimes, especially fragile people, tend to be very influenced by those who work with social media, like teenagers who suffer from their physical aspect can compared their self to those who respect their standards. Even the ostentation of expensive products can lead to level of depression and envy so we are not satisfied with anything and feel inferior. Obviously through social media you can develop cyber bullying, a type of bullying that can also lead to very extreme cases such as suicide, like Carolina Picchi, a girl who killed herself at only 14 years old for the shame she felt after a publication of a private video. Maybe we should spend less time on the phone and think more about our own well being and others.

Sofia Delfino 4Ce

Gabriele Lucchi

I think that social media use in some cases can cause depression. A lot of people based their life on what other people or famous icon does. This can cause envy because a lot of them want to be like the models that inspire them, sometimes changing the true person that someone is. To achieve this, a lot of part of the population diminish the other side, causing sadness, confidentiality and in the worst cases, depression. Attitudes of bad people, affect the idea of good people, causing insecurities. To avoid this, people on social media can create private accounts where only selected people can chat with them or they may not listen to others' criticism and live their lives according to their own goals and aspirations, without being influenced. About myself, in my own life I made many friends on social media but I was also subject to bullying. Fortunately I have overcome these periods of sadness and now live my life with carefree.

Antonia Mastronardi

I think the relationship between people and social media depends on how sensitive a person is.

Depression can be caused by them if you take people on social media as an example to follow and if you compare yourself to them; in this case, most of all if you are insicure about yourself, you would feel very bad because you could never be someone else.

Social media can also cause mental issues like eating disorder because people tend to follow the stereotypes that usually represent skinny girl with a perfect body.

Social media can also cause depression if you use them too much because if you create your own world in them you would never leave it and this could damage your social life in the real world.

If you already have a mental issues like depression staying on social media will only make the situation worse because it will lead you to lock yourself in them.
