It can be very difficult for an individual with APD to be seen by their teachers or parents as an individual with a disability. My father was always telling me to "just listen harder!" or teachers would not follow some of my accommodations because they did not believe I truly struggled enough to make these changes. I was supposed to be receiving flexible seating, personal listening devices, noise canceling headphones or be taken out of the room for any tests/quizzes. These were not always provided because of reasons such as "oh it's just a short quiz, you'll be fine!" or other excuses the teacher would make so I couldn't leave the room. I had trouble following lectures, maintaining attention when podcasts were being played, remembering instructions, or processing what was said.
