(2)Joy Harjo was born in 1951 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She is still alive and well.

(3) Joy received a BA from the University of New Mexico and she was rewarded an MFA from Iowa Writers’ Workshop.

(4) In 2017 Joy was awarded the Ruth Lilly Prize in Poetry. Two years later, she was named U.S. poet laureate. Harjo has received many, many additional prizes and awards for her literature as well.

(5) Harjo is mostly famous for her poetry, but she's also a teacher, saxophonist, and vocalist.

(6) Three interesting facts that I walked away from learning about Joy Harjo are that her hard work resulted in her earning many awards and prizes. Secondly, I saw that instead of limiting herself to only poetry, she is also very musical. Lastly, I learned that since her culture is very important to her, Joy likes to speak about it and help others to learn about it.
