Key moment 1 - Introduction:
Theodore Melfi uses film to introduce the issues of equality by using different camera angles, camera movement, lighting and colour.
   At the start of the film Theodore Melfi used an extreme long shot when the police car was driving along the highway. This made the scene tense and it also established the setting of this movie. As the police car approached the three women Mary Jackson said "ain't no crime in being negro either," this indicated the time this move was set and it also showed us that this movie is going to about racial segregation. As the police car came closer the camera shot changed into a medium shot. This let us see the expressions on their faces. As the police officer was talking the angle of the camera was facing upwards therefore making him appear bigger and scarier.

Key moment 2 - Character:
In this scene Katherine Johnson is frustrated as she has to run 40 miles everyday in high heels in order to use the "coloured" bathroom. She is also frustrated because she has a certain coffee pot she has to use. Once Mr.Harrison points out that she disappears everyday when she needs him she loses the plot and flips. She gives him a whole speech on how hard it is being coloured. By the end of her rant she calms down and walks out of the room. We see that her speech/rant is effective because afterwards Mr.Harrison gets rid of the "coloured" coffee pot and he also removes the "coloured" bathroom sign above the bathroom therefore eliminating racial segregation in NASA.

Key Moment 3 - Climax:
Key moment 3 was when John Glenn wanted Katherine Johnson to re-check the co-ordinations fir the landing. As Katherine was doing the maths everyone around her was tense because they were unsure if the co-ordinates were correct. Once she had finished she quickly ran to Mr.Harrison only to get the door shut in her face as she was not allowed into the room. Once Mr.Harrison got the file her rang John Glenn and told him not to worry as the co-ordinates are correct. As Katherine is about to leave Mr.Harrison callas her back and asks her to stay. 
   This scene was very tense as no one knew if John Glenn landed where he needed to - The Bahamas.

Key Moment 4 - Resolution:
The theme of the film "Hidden Figures" is both gender inequality and racial segregation. Throughout this movie we see that males did not respect females but once they got to know them better they respected them a bit. This movie also showed us that racial segregation occurred even in a work place although that changed throughout the movie as racial segregation slowed down peoples ability to do work. Mr.Harrison got rid of racial segregation in order to eliminate racial inequality and to help improve work being done. 
Throughout the movie gender inequality also pays a huge part. At the start of the film when Katherine joins the aeronautics 
all the men looked at her weirdly because she is a female; information was also blacked out because she was a female and protocol said that women couldn't look at confidential information. Throughout the movie the men start to respect Katherine more and more as she solves the mathematical equations. By the end of the movie they don't care whether she is a female as long as she does her work.

The film “Hidden Figures” portrays the theme of both racism and inequality.
    Throughout the film racial segregation played a huge role, starting from protestors to Katherine Johnson running in heels to the “coloured” bathrooms everyday for 40 minutes. Inequality also played a huge role in this film. We see this when Dorothy Vaughan doesn’t get the wage she is meant to get or the title of a supervisor. She has the skills and workload of a supervisor but doesn’t get the title and is told to be grateful that she even has a job. Lastly Mary Jackson is a mathematician but has a mind of an engineer. Despite her maths and physics degree that many white male workers had she was told she needed extra classes in order to be an engineer

  In this scene Mary Jackson went to her first class for engineering. The contrast between the others dark colours and her bright colours made her stand out. This showed us that Mary Jackson was happy to be there. Low-key lighting mainly consists of dark colours and creating shadows. This makes the scene both dramatic and mysterious whereas as high-key lighting consists of bright colours and whites.
