It was eye-opening to see how regional pride can lead to development movements, but also sometimes create social tension and inequality like we studied through the case studies

When people have a strong sense of identity with their group and are geographically concentrated within a specific area, it can contribute to regionalism. I was also surprised to learn about “regional deprivation”, which is the lack of opportunities and resources available to a group of people in a specific area which is also a major factor that fuels the need for regionalism. Regionalism is a highly pervasive concept, influencing tribal, linguistic, religious, and ethnic identity.

Understanding how the lack of resources can affect a group’s wellbeing can influence the formation of campaigns, awareness programs, incentives, and providing more opportunities for people of such communities to speak out and represent themselves in all fields. Furthermore, since we are living in the digital age we can utilize social media and technology to further improve opportunities and create awareness.
