Here I can open up the door, sit in my pyjamas on the balcony and feel that feeling that so many songs gave me; when I was about to move from the comfort of Tasmania to Melbourne at eighteen.

The view from the shed overlooking the paddocks and the hills. Mount Buller is somewhere in the distance. This is Taungurung land and it's equal parts beautiful and terrifying. We share this land with tiger snakes, wildfire, and storms so mighty they shake the foundations of the land. It's not far from the epicentre of last year's earthquake. But we get snow every winter and there is always something medicinal or nutritious to forage everywhere plants can be found. If you can learn to live alongside the wild and surrender to the impermanence of anything you might create here, it's an extremely special place to live.

I live about two hours away from the CBD now, and although my area is relatively filled with nature, it's still a contrast to the place I grew up in. Whilst my house now is filled with houses that all look alike, and matching synthetic grass strips all over, my childhood consisted of greenery as far as I could look to. The connection and belonging I felt whilst living in Beechworth, my hometown, won't return whilst I live here, in this hustle bustle of the city.
