TASK 1

1) Each group to discuss how to position the five cases on the 2x2 matrix in the powerpoint template (the cases will be added to padlet on the day of the live session)
2) One person in each group to download the template and
rearrange the risks to reflect group discussion
3) Upload the revised powerpoint slide to padlet, entitling
your slide with a memorable group name.
4) Be prepared to explain your decisions in the plenary
session

TASK 2

1) Wider discussion within your group of the way that system architectures can shape vulnerability to, or protect against, failure, reflecting on questions such as : is redundancy and/or resilience always a good thing? Is loose coupling always desirable? Do different kind of risk (eg physical, legal, political, reputational) require different kinds of system design?

2) See if you can find examples of failures (or even conversely successes?) that illustrate the key issues that you think are relevant to what you have read for this session. Some example to get you going might include this story that broke last week: ‘Priti Patel under fire as 150,000 police records accidentally lost’ or this story from back in 2007 ‘UK government loses data on 25 million Britons’.

3) Be prepared to discuss your thoughts and examples in the plenary session
