She got right up when asked and stood for her picture without a question and without a smile. “What kind of work do you do?” I asked, thinking to interest her while I made ready. “I scrubs,” she replied, promptly, and her look guaranteed that what she scrubbed came out clean."

I want to share a story about my ancestors. My aunt did a lot of research on the background of my moms family. She traced our ancestry back to the late 15oos, early 1600s. My moms side of the family is related to the Billingtons. Eleanor Billington was one of the 4 women who survived on the Mayflower. Her husband, John, and her two sons, John and Francis, were the "trouble makers" on this voyage. These 2 boys almost blew up the Mayflower. That's right, my ancestors almost blew up the Mayflower. They were playing with their father's gun where the gunpowder was stored. The gun went off, the bullet hit the ceiling, and sparks went everywhere, almost igniting the gunpowder. John Bilington was one of the few men who signed the Mayflower compact. -- Just thought this was a cool/crazy story about my ancestors early immigration. I hope you enjoyed reading it! also the picture below is a book that tells about the crazy incident concerning the 2 Billington boys. ---sorry this is a little long

In the poem “Chicago,” Carl Sandburg uses personification to portray Chicago as a man. This means that the author describes the city as if it had human qualities. For example, in the second to last stanza, Sandburg imagines that the city has a heart, ribs, and pulse. “Bragging and laughing that under his wrist is the pulse, and under his ribs the heart of the people, Laughing!” I think that Sandburg compares Chicago to humans because it has various aspects like us. Even though he describes Chicago as a bad city, he still loves it.-MD
