Iran has acquired itself a wide variety of flavors and cuisines after the revolution. Dishes like the chelow kebab are considered very popular with the Iranian people. In fact, the chelow kabab is Iran’s national dish, made with pieces of grilled lamb, and served with grilled tomatoes and basmati rice cooked in saffron. One thing Iranian dishes all tend to have in common is that their dishes are almost always served with either rice or bread. According to the article “Iranian Cuisine” on Wikipedia, “Traditionally, rice was most prevalent as a major staple item in northern Iran and the homes of the wealthy, while bread was the dominant staple in the rest of the country.” Rice, in some areas of Iran, is seen as a sign of wealth, although nowadays the Cost of rice is around one dollar per pound. In todays society, many people actively eat foods that come out of Iran, and enjoy many of their cuisines.

The western songs were forbidden and anyone listening to “un-Islamic” music could be punished. Music in Iran after the revolution helped many people’s mental health and gave them courage during gatherings. Pop-music and popular western music was banned in Iran after the revolution. Music slowly came back during the Iran-Iraq war and was used for propaganda. Music in Iran gave audiences a structure where they can give in social and political debates.

Stanford University Press. “Soundtrack of the Revolution: The Politics of Music in Iran - Nahid Siamdoust.” Sup.org, 2017, www.sup.org/books/title/?id=24949 Accessed 22 Aug. 2024

Askew, Joshua. “What Happened When Iran Criminalised Music?” Euronews, 26 May 2022, www.euronews.com/culture/2022/05/26/what-happens-when-a-country-criminalises-music

21 August 2024

In Iran, art has been born from their struggles what they went through. Iranian Revolution of 1978-79. It shows how it affected artist’s work in Irian after the end of the revolution. There was artist post evolution. For example, in ‘Art After the Iranian Revolution’’ it states ‘Kaveh Golestan was alive from 1950-2003 and he documented the changing society of Iran through photography. He also recorded the lives of the people who lived on the edge of society, such as prostitutes, and their sufferings.’’ So, he showed the phases of Iranian Art in photography. Also, regarding their artwork, a lot of Iranians were inspired to create art about the revolution and Iran. The art from the 1960s to the 1980s is where they made the transitions. It reflects the social conditions at the time. It showed the difference between the rich and the poor post revolution.

Art After the Iranian Revolution of 1978-1979 – Opening Contemporary Art (plymouth.edu)

(1) After the Iranian revolution, ideas for many different forms of media arose, including movies. One article even stated that it, “Ushered in a new era of filmmaking in the country, with a surge of creative and thought-provoking films.” (2) These films grew quite popular with their writing, such as the movie directed by Abbas Kiarostami, “Taste of cherry” which goes into existential theming about a man’s contemplation for his death. (2) Some other movies were more lighthearted, such as “Children of heaven” directed by Majid Majidi, following the adventures of a boy trying to replace his sister’s lost shoes. (3) In conclusion, the Iranian film business flourished after the revolution, leading to movies for all ages to watch and enjoy.

Sources:

Iranian Cinema – MERIP

The 10 Best Iranian Movies Post Iranian revolution – letterboxd.com

Iranian Most Valuable Movies Part 2: Post-revolution era – imdb.com

Iran has its own variety of sports that are popular, the website iranvisitor.com states, “sports like wrestling and skiing are also a favorite pastime for many Iranians.” (1) The website also states that their enjoyment of soccer is also prevalent but overshadows other favored sports. (1) While they have sports, they need players, and the revolution made a huge setback for women's sports as many were prevented from participating. (2) The Iran-Iraq war made resources needed for sports scarce, however in recent years there has been a sort of rebirth of sports in terms of athletes, both male and female. (2) To sum it up, Iran enjoys a wide range of sports from soccer to wrestling, and anyone can participate and enjoy watching.

Sources

Iranian sports – iranvisitor.com

Iran: Sports, Recreation, Culture – Britannica.com
