I'm sorry that you got kidnapped and got forced to be a sled dog. You should've bit that man right when he grabbed you. I know it sucks that your a sled dog now but your one of the best ones they have. No other dog is stronger than you. They already tried ganging up on you but failed. I think what you should do is make a statement and let all the dogs know who is the boss. Maybe they won't pick on you anymore if you do that. This word is describing how Buck got more comfortable after the tight rope was detached from his neck.
2. combatants - a person engaged in conflict or competition with another. "Instantly, thirty or forty huskies raced to the fight and surrounded the two combatants in a strangely silent circle" (London 38) this word is describing the two fighting dogs and how the others were surrounding them to watch the fight. 
3. Writhing - respond with great emotional or physical discomfort to. "Francois grabbed a club and sprang feet first into the writhing mass of dogs" (London 43).
