Zelie, Tzain, Baba, Yemi, and Mama Agba are introduced. Yemi and Zelie are sparring and Zelie wins. The guards come to collect an ever-raising tax for harboring diviners, and Mama Agba lets Zelie graduate. After Zelie has an abrupt graduation, she receives her staff(metal, no longer wooden). Baba almost drowns. Zelie goes to the market to get more money/coins, but she meets a hooded figure who is being chased by the Royal Guards, that hooded person is the princess of Orïsha.
(Amari watches as Binta (Amari's close friend and handmaiden) is forced to touch the scroll just for King Saran to see if the scroll's abilities are real. Binta is killed as Amari watches and Amari steals the scroll and escapes the Royal Palace)

Crazy House is similar to this book because both Children Of Blood And Bone and Crazy House have dictators/monarchies to rule them. Zelie, Yemi, Mama Agba, and all the other diviners were ripped of their magic defenses when King Saran killed most of the sentaros. In Crazy House, Becca and Cassie are arrested and cut of from society in a correctional facility for something they didn't do. This "crazy house" is controlled by the government. The text messages below represent the market scene.

The Maji/diviners should be victorious because their race has been decimated by King Saran and his monarchy. Zelie makes a dangerous gamble and nearly gets in trouble when the Royal Guard tries to arrest her. In the end she makes out with enough money to last her family several months and with the fugitive princess of Orïsha.

The setting affects the character's actions because, when the fire starts to burn down ahéré's, Zeile has to jump over the broken pieces of "sidewalk" since their town was built on the sea.

The setting affects the character's thoughts because, when the guards come to collect taxes at Mama Agba's ahéré, Zelie thinks "with the right blow I could knock him off his feet; with the right thrust I could crush his throat." She thinks this because, every week, taxes increase and her family can barely afford them.

The setting affects the character's choices because, when the guards come to collect taxes from Mama Agba, Zelie says "Maybe you should stop robbing us." Zelie knows she isn't supposed to speak when guards can hear her because diviners can be executed just for speaking, but she says this because Mama Agba and most people in Ilorin are just as poor as her family.

The picture below represents what Zelie could have done if she was maji and if King Saran did not end the sentaros. She could have summoned dead souls to defend Mama Agba so she would not have to pay the taxes she cannot afford. She also could have used an incantation to rip the guard's souls out of their bodies.

Zelie is being hunted by the Royal Guards with the fugitive princess of Orïsha. She is trying to escape the endless marketplaces of Lagos, but the guards are closing in. She makes what is most likely a molotov cocktail, and throws it at the guards. Moments after the molotov cocktail explodes, Nailah and Tzain jump over the guard's blockade and escape with Zelie and Amari (the fugitive princess of Orïsha).
Amari gives the scroll to Tzain, Zelie touches the scroll and goes from diviner to maji the second she touches the scroll.
Back at the Royal Palace (in Lagos), Inan finds out it is Amari behind the cloak, that she was the figure behind that cloak. King Saran tells Inan to burn the village.
When Zelie, Tzain, and Amari arrive in Ilorin, they go to Mama Agba's ahéré and tell her about what happened throughout the day. She asks to look at the scroll, but has the same transformation Zelie did. She became a maji of time, a Seer. She then has a vision of Zelie, Tzain, and Amari journeying to an ancient temple called Chândomblé and restore magic to Orïsha. The fire King Saran ordered then starts to burn the fisherman village of Ilorin, all the ahérés are burning down. In all of this, Zelie goes back to her ahéré and looks for Nailah, Tzain, and Baba. She finds them with Nailah paddling towards shore, Tzain on her back, and Mama Agba and Baba in a coconut tree boat attached to Nailah's saddle. After the fire has succumbed to the sea, Zelie, Tzain, and Amari begin their journey Chândomblé and their journey to bring magic back to Orïsha.

Something that was too coincidental/predictable was when Amari took the scroll because her father killed Binta, then she ran away and just happened to run into Zelie, one of the few people who really wanted/needed magic. As Zelie touched the scroll, she became a maji. This was too coincidental or predictable because out of the (most likely) thousands of people in the marketplace, Amari asked Zelie for help, and not anyone else. The map below shows just how large Orïsha and the marketplace are. It also shows how small of a chance that Amari had after she took the scroll and ran into Zelie.

A suggested ending to the end of the book; before Zelie and the bandits enter the holy temple, Zelie could have used the sunstone to amplify her ashe and make more dead people so that they could battle the ambush of King Saran and his guards instead of Zelie and the bandits going in, fighting, and accidently destroying scroll. Zelie and the bandits should have known that there was a possible ambush, but instead they went inside and fought it out. The picture below symbolises what Zeile could have done, instead of walking into an ambush.

One of the most important "episodes" in the book is when Zelie, Amari, and Tzain are fighting in the water arena against the other ships. It is important to this section of the book because this is when they get the sunstone. My thoughts on this episode were; how is a water arena possible and how do you make an arena large enough for 30 ships. I reacted this way because a water arena big enough to properly let 30 ships sail is not possible. Another reason I think this is because; even today's most technologically advanced structures don't come close to that (except the Panama Canal). The picture of the Roman Colosseum below shows just how big this water arena would have to be in order for 30 ships to sail in it; the water arena would have had to been bigger than the Colosseum.

The author's purpose in writing this book seemed to be that no matter who, what, and where you were, you could achieve anything if your really tried. In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Tomi Adeyemi described how she was in a bookstore in Brazil and she saw the Orïsha. She never saw pictures of gods that had a dark skin tone, and that was how the idea of Children Of Blood And Bone was made. Tomi Adeyemi created a book that basically said "stand up for who you are, even when the going gets tough". That is why Children Of Blood And Bone is becoming a movie and a part of the trilogy of Orïsha. The video below is the interview with Jimmy Fallon that shows how Tomi conceived the idea of Orïsha in a brazilian bookstore. (Entries 8, 9, and 10 will be deleted, Entry #8 was supposed to be summary for the rest of the book, but that would ruin the book :).).
