seghezzi
Oil spills in the Niger Delta are among the worst on the planet. Between 1970 and 2000, there were over 7,000 spills. Between 1956 and 2006, up to 1.5 million tons of oil were spilled in the Niger Delta.
An oil spill is the release of a liquid petroleum hydrocarbon into the environment, especially the marine ecosystem, due to human activity, and is a form of pollution. The term is usually given to marine oil spills, where oil is released into the ocean or coastal waters, but spills may also occur on land. Oil spills may be due to releases of crude oil from tankers, offshore platforms, drilling rigs and wells, as well as spills of refined petroleum products (such as gasoline, diesel) and their by-products, heavier fuels used by large ships such as bunker fuel, or the spill of any oily refuse or waste oil.[citation needed]

deforestation in Brasil, Forest Amazonas.
------------------------------------------------------------
Causes:

Human activity and ambition have made the environment an easy target and prey. The Amazon knows this very well, since it has been suffering for years from the depredation and devastation of its forests and natural resources.
Human activity and ambition have made the environment an easy target and prey. The Amazon knows this very well because it has suffered for years from the depredation and devastation of its forests and natural resources. The causes are many, some illegal and others irregular, but all have economic motivation. Among the main ones are:
Commercial logging: Most of its trees are used to provide raw material for the timber industry.
Road construction: the proliferation of industrial zones made several transport routes easier to access
Livestock: In much of the Amazonian territory, agribusiness has deforested hundreds of hectares of land for livestock use; in expanding pasture areas. Deforestation in the Amazon is the immediate consequence of an activity that seeks to satisfy and respond to a growing demand for food throughout the world, especially in those countries where the consumption of meat products is higher.
Agricultural crops: Soybeans and palm oil are the most cultivated crops in these areas.
The Amazon is being bulldozed in some areas to provide raw material for the timber industry across the planet. Also agricultural cultivation.
Despite the reality that a part of the free space is predetermined for animals, most of it will be used for agriculture. On the one hand, there are the nations whose economy is focused on the essential division and generation of raw materials. And finally, the development of roads suggests that certain areas of the Amazon jungle are being deforested to carry out communication courses between the places of generation and consumption.

The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimates that 80% of the deforestation in Brazil is caused directly or indirectly by the raising of cattle. In the Amazon, one of the main contributors to deforestation is logging, which refers to tree-related activities that are largely illegal.
------------------------------------------------------------
Consequences:
Deforestation and biodiversity loss have led to a high risk of irreversible changes in the Amazon rainforests.
Deforestation of the Amazon rainforest has had a significant negative impact on Brazil's fresh water supply, harming, among others, the agroindustry that contributed to the deforestation of the forests.
The rainforest provides much of the rain in Brazil, even in remote areas. Deforestation has increased the impacts of droughts
Deforestation causes a temperature increase in Brazil of 1.45 degrees, which can cause an increase in human mortality rates and electricity demand, reduce agricultural incomes and water resources, and contribute to the collapse of biodiversity, especially in the tropical regions.
More than a third of the Amazon rainforest belongs to more than 4,466 formally recognized indigenous territories. Deforestation has caused the loss of habitat for these peoples. Furthermore, the loggers killed the natives and invaded their lands.
If explosive deforestation continues, it is estimated that by 2025 40% of the forest will no longer exist. What's worse is that, over the years, these stats become more critical, which can cause the jungle to disappear sooner than expected.
---------------------------------------------------------
solutions:
Implementation of effective public policies for environmental conservation;
Increased environmental inspection;
Restraining land grabbing;
Compliance with the Forest Code by all;
End deforestation for agriculture and livestock;
Improvement in agricultural practices;
Creation of Environmental Conservation Units;
Demarcation of indigenous areas protected by law;
Support for sustainable uses of the forest;
Reduction and boycott of markets associated with deforestation;
Greater public engagement.

Nowadays there is an NGO called Versova, which is made up of a group of young volunteers from San Isidro who are trying to clean up the horizon.

The oil spill is a great impact on the environment because being so toxic, it contaminates the sea, the animals, the people living nearby, the land and the plants. I think the government should take care of these spills since this has been going on for years. There were many proposals to prevent this from happening a second time but the government refused, or did not take into account. The ONG has spoken out on this one.
Ciafardini
